Anyone ever try netting small fry....especially with gravel in tank? Pain in the ass! Easier to suck them out with a hose....won't hurt them at all.

Ultimately, if I could put them in the 40, this would be ideal. I'm just not sure what a proper size would be to do this. The house thing is a great idea.

Why you worried about when & at what size to remove them? I separate the eggs from the parents as soon as I know they're fertilized...this eliminates the risk of them being eaten. They're fine on their own.
you can leave fry there and remove parents.
or syphon them into same water. It is totally safe
I'm thinking about siphoning the water from the tank they're in now into the 40 and setting the temp at exactly what the tank they're in is at and moving them along with the parents into the 40. What you guys think?
