Looking for a smaller catfish maxing out around 6 inches. Would like to find more active cats like hoplo but is there even any smaller more active cats?

Could try pictus catfish. They'll be active and about.

Are they semi aggressive at all? I plan on getting a gold gourami and some rose line sharks and maybe cherry barbs.

Well, they are very vigorous when it comes to feeding, they are really aggressive. They sometimes scuffle amongst themselves from time to time
also I recommend buying a minimum of 5 as pictus cats will school with each other, they tend to be lazy and grumpy when kept alone.

If I need a group then I'll prob pass on the pictus I'm trying to have a variety in my 55, I was looking at banjo and bumblebee cats but their not active but still cool tho, I'll just try to set up my tank so I'll be able to see any hidding spots

Hard to find a schooling cat close to 6 inches that are active. But Pictus is the best option.

You are thinking of four-line pictus catfish aka Pimelodus blochii that gets to about a foot. Pictus catfish aka Pimelodus pictus gets to only 5".

You'd need at least 5-6 to see some activity from them, otherwise they'd hide too much.

Other candidates are, as you said, hoplo cats, cories, and plecos. Some Doradids, like Trachydoras, don't hide. They essentially behave like cory.

You can filter Cat-eLog on Planet Catfish by size and browse through it.
