Smartest fish? ... Stupidest fish?

I have a candidate for dumbest: cory cats.

I set up a tank with large round river rocks and put in 8 cory cats. The next day 7 of them were dead because they wedged themselves in between the rocks and got stuck.
 
i say the smartest fish had to be botom dewelers because it takes more for them navagate through dark dirty waters like stingrays catfishes and lungfishes ect.... and i say the dumbes fish is probaly a gold fish!!! the first ones to be eatin by other fishes!(lol)

hey! i cat train a catfish to find food but it takes a gold fish longer to get find food and if lucky it get stuck over and over in my water pump!! dumb gold fishes! the have low memory!

Yellow Perch= dumbest
 
I cannot believe this thread started with Oscars being the dumbest!
You must have really drawn the short straw (or short bus:ROFL:) when you picked out ur oscar. Mines crazy smart! Always the first one to the top of the tank when feeding, will jump out of the water to take food from my hand (Although i never let him come higher than a few inches abouve the surface for saftey) and hes the only fish I have who knows when feeding time is! I feed in the morning and as soon as he sees me sit up hes front and center all eyes on me (Only acts this way in the morning before feeding). Got to be one of the smartest fish there is IMO

i have to say my old oscar was the smartest AND dumbest fish i have had. if you've ever owned one you know what i mean.

It's spelt "Caecillian" and it's an amphibian, not a fish, which is why it can breath air.

I'm not really sure how people are defining "intelligence". An oscar is definitely not the stupidest fish. Oscars, and most cichlids for that matter, guard territories, form pairs and care for their young. All these things are fairly complex behaviors and could qualify for intelligence. A guppy, or tetra that is perfectly willing to eat it's own babies is clearly less intelligent.

Mormyrids have the largest brains and display very interesting behaviour, but who knows if that qualifies as intelligence.
 
I looked up smart in the dictionary and it said look up-
intelligent implies the ability to learn or understand from experience or to respond successfully to a new experience
