Solo Fish 125g Suggestions (Not Cichlids, Maybe)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont keep a Fahaka so I cant comment with any authority there. But the ones I do have (Hairy + Arrowhead) are very dependent on tank decor, not sure how a Fahaka would do bare tank. I know some puffers have a tendency to 'cruise the glass' if there is not enough decor to interact with.

I agree our figure with start surfing about every month without a change up to his decor, lots of shrimp keep him busy but I dont think they would have a chance for long in a bare setup.

Your 18" width limits you a bit IMO. I would not get anything that wouldn't have space to go back and forth

I agree with an opinion towards animal comfort. Would this limit me to fish less than 14in??

I would stay closer to the 12in mark.

Here is a 12in Amphilophus in a 18in wide tank

Now if we are talking an eel that are more "bendy" you could go bigger you would think.

I agree fahaka are great but the 18" width may be to small unfortunately. I have a very small but growing fast fahaka with a 180 awaiting set up. I hear they " stall out" around 10" or so though so may be very comfortable as an only child in a 125. To bad the 125 wasn't a bit wider then tall.

I know you want a solo fish but consider 1 jack dempsey with 3-4 upper jaw bichirs in my opinion JDs are more personable then oscars mine will try to bite me through the glass and chase me as I walk by the tank
heres mine orion he has been very personable even before their was fry in the tank
