Some people just have no respect for animals!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think its one thing when you are just a person who unfortunately didn't get well informed, but to have this happen in a school...by a teacher? That is just appalling.

I agree with people above.. report her! Report her to anyone willing to listen - be it the principal or report her to some rescue organization.

That makes me mad, that teacher needs to learn what fish she is buying and maybe listen to the student.:screwy:
It's one time a student passes his teacher.:grinno: The teacher is an ignoramus, simple. She is not willing to learn more. You can thank her pride for that.

It would take a "special" kind of person to mistake a pacu for a piranha after owning 1 already. the size difference is huge. the fact she keeps calling it a piranha tells all especially if youve informed her that it is in fact a pacu. its like a little kid "nuh uh thats a piranha cuz i want a piranha more". Buy her a medal and tell her shes special then hit the tank with a hammer.

my suggestion go to the principal give him some links to some threads here on pacu and then also tell him about the joke of the day the student did

now get four friends and four masks then hold the joker down and pour dish soap in his mouth see what he thinks of it

In school we had a 'Piranha' named Chomper who really was a pacu that was bought mislabeled as a piranah. He lived in a 5 gallon tank :irked: and was fed a sole diet of rosy-red minnows. To top that off the tank was totally bare with minimum filtration and when I tried to explain to the teacher that this was not a piranha they totally ignored me!!! The thing didn't even have teeth!! I felt horrible for the poor fish....

About a week ago the fish mysteriously disappeared along with the tank and if you think the 5gallon part was bad...here's worse...

Someone (a student) had apparently dumped DISH SOAP INTO THE TANK as a joke!!! Now the pacu is dead and he didn't even have a decent life...:( I wish I would have caught this sooner. Just goes to show how IRRISPONSIBLE some people are and I can't believe someone would actually poison the fish.

Ugh I just needed to rant!

what idiot teacher did this? way to educate the student body

hard to believe teachers can be so ignorant. these are not real teachers but just working as teachers to live their life.

to true my mother taught grades 1 and 2 while she was alive and she really hated the people for whom teaching was only about the pay and the holidays.

I really have to give it to the true teachers!

If your teachers keep putting potentially giant fish in rediculously small tanks, you could probably complain to the principal about it. If I were you, I'd print out plenty of information identifying the species being kept (to prove your teacher is wrong), along with a print-out of its care requirements). Set up an appointment with an administrator. Explain to them in a well thought out argument why your teacher should not be keeping such a fish. If you just go in whining that your teacher doesn't believe you, you'll probably get ignored.

If that gets you no where, have your parent(s) call and complain to administrators (principal, etc). A phone call from a parent usually will spur action.
