Some things will be Obsolete ....maybe we will miss them

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i say let UPS or Fedex take over. maybe the govt could learn something. those companies run like clockwork with lean operations. let them handle all the mail. theyre gonna need tons of new employees, so USPS workers could get hired by UPS/Fedex, just like happened with the dissolution of Arthur Anderson after the Enron scandal ;)

$1.9 billion loss for the first half of 2010 :screwy:

Mail. I only get junk mail, and B-day cards. All bills are sent and paid on-line. No more paper bills for me.

I don't write checks anymore,nor have I for sometime. I hate them. I gotta agree with jcardona1.

The newspaper is too expensive. I can't justify paying for it when I can get the info on the web.

I have never been a big reader, but my wife is. I hope books never disappear. Something about them. They need to stay.

I have not had a phone land line in years either.

Most of my music is downloaded, but I still buy some CD's

I hope TV does not disappear. I love it too much.

I gotta agree with #8 & 9

Cool thread. I have been thinking about these things too. Times are really changing.
It makes me feel old LOL :)

but it's not a competition. UPS and Fedex has to answer to shareholders. who do USPS answer to? nobody. theyre a big expensive department with tons of overhead. theyve been operating at a loss for years, yet their still in business. how is that fair competition? any other company would have sank, yet the post office continues to run while taking huge hits. had UPS or Fedex sustained the losses that USPS has, they would have been gone a long time ago.

I agree that the US Postal Service is excessive in expenditures. They're over managed and run by lazy, incompetent people, but their low shipping rates allow the consumer to have a reasonable option. The very existence of the USPS is a standard of what we want to pay keeps UPS and Fedex from raising their rates. Without the USPS, the competition will eventually take advantage of John Q. Public.

Yeah Im agreeing with him. I've done both. In either medium focus is the main issue. Lighting can be fudged in the darkroom, or by adjusting digital levels (though only to certain degree) People seem to forget how much you can change a photo during development when they complain about digital manipulation.

What about the lost of jobs, if the USPS were to shut down? That would not be good for the economy. It would add fuel to the fire.

post #21 ;) if they go down, whoever takes over would have to expand operations big-time. i'm sure most of those workers would be hired by the new company

I don't really think the USPS will be allowed to perish. The government will force them to trim spending and rid themselves of dead weight. If it does happen and UPS and Fedex are allowed to take over our shipping, they need to be closely regulated by the government or they will take advantage of the public.

nah, i dont agree with that. heavy regulation leads to no good. look at the airline industry. people think all that regulation makes us safe, but the whole industry is a mess. i believe in free markets. a free market is a healthy market. mail and shipping is no different than any other service industry, the government should not be in it. just look what's happening with healthcare :)
