There are a few things about punishing the kid:

1) Never punish the kid because and while you are angry. Calm down, access the situation, then assign punishment
2) No physical harm...To be, paddling the behind is fine, slapping the palm is fine, choking/hands around neck, close fisted punches, etc are not.
3) Be consistent in punishment.
4) Most of time, be private about the punishment. Save the public dress down for special cases.
5) Make sure your kid knows you love him...no matter what happens...and yes, even when you are punishing him.

Couldn't agree more

I think it is somewhat true. Abused kids are definitely more likely to grow up messed up. It doesn't even have to be beatings, there are so many different forms of abuse that can screw people up.

Abuse is different then spanking

Spanking is abuse, punishing them shouldn't involve physical contact at all. I have seen kids who were spanked for punishments end up running away or much worse :(

Best way of punishing kids is taking away some of their things such as a phone, game system, laptop, and ect.
Even better grounding them, but don't go overbored. Grounding them for a week is max, but just a couple days is enough.

BS....I got spanked and I do It my children when they deserve it. I think is the best way to correct bad behavior but don't abuse either.

It is quite puerile how a lot of my friends hate their parents, most of them hated their parents because of spanking. In my opinion it isn't right, there are plenty of other punishments instead of 'spanking'.

Perfect video for you 'spankers'.

How old were you and your friends spanked till? Most parents stop before the child is through elementary school, after that they're too old for it to have the same effect, although I can see it causing other issues if it's continued into the teenage years. And I don't believe that someone hates their parents solely because of being spanked, real abuse sure, but not a swat on the ass when they act up, there's more to their stories than what needs to be said here.

Spanking is a tool in the tool box of parenting. Properly used, it can be of great affect. As for hating parents, my friends who complains of parents and upbringing do not speak of spanking, rather of apathy. If you are young, when you become older, you will understand.
