I was spanked till the 7th grade, hated it. I knew there were other options back then instead of spanking but my dad wouldn't listen. Some of my friends were spanked till high school others elementary.

Your friends don't speak of it because they are probably afraid, they probably hate thinking/talking about it. I would understand, it isn't right.
Whats wrong with parents these days? It always has to be physical contact to you people.... Have you ever thought about using other punishments besides spanking?
 
who said spanking is the ONLY discipline they implement?
 
Maybe its the lack of physical punishment that's the cause of kids being so unruly these days...no fear of anything to keep them in line, just look at the bullying thread

I guess that is your opinion, kids will learn their lesson themselves sometimes the hard way.

@petspoiler yeah it is better than slapping, grabbing, shoving & hitting but there are other options instead of physical contact IMO.

I do not think people in their thirties and forties fear their parents who are very old, under their kids care, etc. As for the rest, what does a tool in a toolbox mean? It does not mean my only tool. I need to ask you, what's wrong with YOU? When I say I spank my kid, how is it you assume that means all I know is spank my kid ?!

I found your problem, once a child hits puberty spanking really isn't appropriate anymore because then it can take one other meanings and cause a lot of confused feelings
