maybe not mental illness like you all are thinking or if thats what it said in the article but it does stay with you mentally. look how many of you are talking about how it happened to you when younger. i myself dont get it, i dont think in any way that should happen.

I've been getting into too many heated debates in the lounge these days, so I'm not about to get into one on parenting. But, do you all honestly think that raising undisciplined kids will result in honest, upstanding, moral adults?
As for the study, it basically says that up to 90% of the population has endured a spanking at some point in their lives (wah). Of that, 41% are at risk of depression, and 59% are at risk of alcohol/drug abuse. How can they make that comparison when almost everyone is in the same boat? So, 59% of us who have been spanked are at no risk of depression? 41% are at no risk of alcohol abuse? Basically, what this report is telling me is that 90% of us end up either depressed or a drinker, and drinkers aren't depressed. That's about it. Every time I crack a beer, I'm not thinking " this ones for you ma, because you smacked my ass when I kicked the neighbor's dog when I was 6".

Promblem with soceity is that parents want to be their childs best bud instead of a parent. Kids get out of line bust their bums. Children need to know that in a family being a kid is not a democracy but a dictator ship with the parent in charge. Once kids know this they will fowllow rules in and out of the home. And in turn respect themselves and others. I bet them kids taunting that old woman on a bus never got spanked.
Mysterious, it sounds like mabe your parents crossed the line from disciple to abuse now an then. If that is the case, Im sorry to hear that. But when you were thinking about the other options your parents had to discipline you, did you ever think about WHY you were being disciplined?? Is it normal in your family for the kids to pick how they are disciplined? I also didnt understand what you said about friends not wanting to talk about spankings, My friends and I talked openly about discipline, ha ha as a matter of fact we joked about it, and we may have had it worse cause with us it was spanking, then butt whippins, if that didnt work it was a free trip out the front door.
What's your point? Isn't that the way it is suppose to be? If we are out to dinner, you'd better be on your best behavior. If I find out from my kids teacher they were "acting" up or being disrespectful..they're mine.
You know my kids have done almost everything ONCE..ONCE, I will give chances. For example my daughter (3-4th grade cant remember which) wouldn't keep her mouth shut in school, I told her and told her. Finally went in for a PTC progress reports and the teacher told me she had been having to get onto her about her mouth. Enough was enough and she was mine.
In 5th grade she signed my name on her graded work WHICH were good grades BUT she signed my name --

I will not ALLOW her to walk out of the house wearing those short shorts all the other trashy girls wear..If you are a father and allow your daughter out in those SHORTS..WHAT ARE YOU thinking?
Although calling your father dude is kinda strange I call my dad that sometimes and I'm a grown man not ALL the time more joking around with him like is that grey hair I see duuuude? I agree some shorts are WAY to short but there are short shorts that aren't trashy ... just because people have turned them into a trashy thing doesn't mean all girls who wear those are.. my girlfriend wears short shorts all summer but she also goes to church every Sunday and is the sweatest most caring girl to everyone and she runs a kids fundraiser for kids with less fortunate families. Saying she's a trashy girl because she likes to feel comfortable in 90 degree weather is nonsense what about bathing suits? Would that be trashy If girls wear a 2 piece vs a 1 piece? I would say its less trashy the girl but more pervert the guy. What I'm saying is rethink your decisions on your daughter (if you tell her it looks trashy) that's like saying all guys who wear WWE or UFC shorts are just roudy douche bags .
And to the other poster who said that's the problem with society that parents want to be friends instead of parents, no it's that there not being a parent enough. My dad is still my best friend and was all growing up we "hung out" outside of the house and was Dad inside the house with Mom .. I think maybe times have just changed (than again lil wayne and all that stuff wasn't here either) not saying that's the cause I don't want to blame him I guess just that type of music that is more wide stream vs rock n roll.
