So, you feed NLS, Ken's Fish flake etc. My questions is are they still alive?I feed mine NLS, Ken's Fish flake, and super worms. They're 9-10" male and 8-9" female... I think that smaller ones might be more sensitive / prone to bloat but mine eat like horses.
Is it possible to differentiate male and female at 3-4"? Could you please tell me how to differentiate? It's best to keep them separated until they pair off. Your two look to be both females. At 3-4", they will be distinct in coloration. There's no question about males and females at that size. The males will be white and the females will look like yours.
I ended up with 3 females and 1 male from the 4 I bought from Jeff Rapps. I'd like to find at least one more male around 5" to pair another of the females off with.
All of my females are constantly at each other. I finally put the male in the divider between two of them to see which one he ends up with. They are in a 75 with 3 dividers in it.
Wow, interesting!!! I have been keeping 2" 4 Haitiensis with 1-2" 8 convicts and 1.5" 2 synspilum in 20g tank feeding high protein food. Should I keep 4 Haitiensis in one tank without others..or it is better to keep with other cichlid fries?I don't understand. Looking at the general anatomy and morphology of Nandopsis haitiensis, it doesn't resemble a typical herbivorous cichlid in any way whatsoever, physically at least (think of how Tropheus, Neetroplus and maybe even Paratheraps are built). The terminal position of the mouth suggests it is a carnivorous species. Moreover, the species is closely related to ex-Cichlasoma grammodes, a largely carnivorous fish. So why do people keep assuming high-protein diets cause bloat in Haitiensis?
