Species that usually aren't picky but are.

I moved to Oregon, so I'm out of the loop now. It's the 3rd Thursday of each month, so you just missed March. I hear the turnout wasn't very good this month.

I'm bringing this back up. I think it might have something to do with waterchanges. I skimped this week and his hump is back and he's more active. Just did the late waterchange today, we'll see what happens. I have no idea how my water tests from the tap (bad I know, only lived here two months...). Maybe my conditioner is bad...it's probably 2 years old.

We'll see what happens.

For whatever it's worth, my male hasn't been eating for about a month. He still spawns with the female and his behavior is still the same, but I'm starting to notice weight loss too. If and when you get your guy sorted out please let us know what worked for you.

So to rehash, still haven't seen him eat anything...until today. Today he went to town on the log that the convicts were spawning on and ate all their eggs.

He will not eat off the surface, won't touch earthworms, wax worms, snails, large or small floating or sinking pellets (Hikari or Omega One). Garlic extract on any of the above didn't do a thing either. I'm growing out some marble crays now but it's going to be a while before they're snack sized. If anyone has any thoughts on other foods to try I'm all ears. I'd love to try some NLS but am not sure what size the smallest package I can get is.

He's out cruising all day and is obviously hungry (I'd be hungry too if all I ate was convict eggs every week or so). He's settled into the tank (been over three months now) and has dithers (two convict pairs, a female GT I need to get rid of, and 3 apple snails he didn't eat that are now pretty big). I don't think he's grown much if at all.

He's got great potential but I'm getting fed up with his eating issues.

Sorry for the bad shots, tank needs cleaning, they stirred up a bunch of particulates attacking each other, and the eggs were being laid in a bad area for photography.

My male Jag is exactly the same he will only eat Ocean Nutrition sinking pellets nothing else even though the pellets are the size of match heads and he is 10 inches he doesn't even look at hikari, NLS pr Omega One

well he still looks pretty good so he must be eating something when you aren't looking, did you ever treat with jungle parasite clear? that med works great and it doesn't harm your beneficial bacteria and doesn't seem to be harsh on the fish at all, i would do all 3 treatments just to be safe, if nothing changes after that then you know for sure that its not parasites and you can move on to other things. did the soaking stuff in garlic not work either?

Yes I treated with Jungle Parasite Clear. Followed the directions on the box.

I also tried soaking several different foods in Seachem garlic extract.

oh ok, well that sucks i cant think of any reasons why he would still be such a finicky eater, have you tried feeding guppies or something?

Nope, trying to stay away from feeder fish. I figured he'd have small convicts to eat, but he apparently has a hunger for caviar so I've yet to get the convicts to free swimming stage.
