spiney red devil pleco

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have it in a "community" tank with some CA cichlids, a couple of catfish, and two baby poly's- an ornate and an albino. The pleco gets his chunk of krill and anyone, including the slightly blundering ornate, get whacked with his fin if they get close- meanwhile, the pleco never lets go of his piece of krill. It is very humorous. All of the fish are only about 3-4 inches long at this point.

I originally got three- at $50 each, but as I mentioned in a previous post, two died very quickly, with very sunken bellies- I tried all sorts of things but I think it was internal parasites. so I consider this guy a $150 pleco.....

They will get territorial. I would not recommend keeping the pleco with your bichirs. If he gets too hungry, and you aren't there to feed him he may turn on them, and start sucking their fish slime off. This can become fatal. Also, if the bichir outgrows the pleco he might try eating the pleco...

Did you get a chance to look at these plecos before purchasing them??? If it has sunken stomach, I will skip it, just due to the extra work that has to go into the pleco, unless they offer a great price.

I ordered them from someone I have ordered from before- I was told they were "thin" but had been quarantined and should fatten up. I did get some recompense for them in other things.

If I SEE the fish, I Never buy sunken looking plecos....

I'll def. keep my eyes on him for more aggression- so far, eveyone is fine.

Keep us posted. Sucks when you buy fish from someone and they die, and they are expensive. Would rather see you with 3 $50 fish than 1 $150 fish.

These catfish are awsome! I have to get a hold of some.. Top nice :headbang2

looks like a scarlet to me, rare in england just about everywere and when they do come up for sale its a race to see who gets there first, a 4" will cost u around the £40 pounds mark and then £10 per inch upwards
