It really depends on the Tegus. I've seen it done before, but you'd need a large enclosure, double the space required for a single tegu.

Join www.thetegu.com and ask this question there, lots more people on there have more expierence with keeping more then one together, I have never done it. I know people who have, and have seen it work, sometimes it doesnt. Its just like any other herp out there, it really depends.

I talked to him in consideration of buying, and helped out great, even though he didnt have a sale. Good sign when a breeder helps you out even without money involved

Albinos and snow blues go from 600-1000+ last time I checked. But they look so cool! lol
There are also Chacoan B/w's and red/blue or red/argentine hybrids.

I plan on making a little enclosure in my garage 8x4x4(found great cheap plans for it) and then making there outdoor enclosure in the backyard 12x6x4(or bigger) anyway yeah I thought the snows and albinos were more than that, and I dont like hybrids so Im just going to stick with a red or B/w.

Alrighty, well the deciding factor of your species should be size. Another thing, reds *supposedly* need more plant matter in their diet than argentines. Thats something Ive found consitantly on breeders websites, but havent looked into it. But dude, if you can get a blue, thats your best choice!

I know you already have plans, but a trough enclosure might work for you. Im sure if youve spent any amount on time on a monitor forum youve seen them. As long as your area isnt terribly dry or polluted, youre in a good area for tegus. You should be able to keep them outside a good amount of time. Although Im not sure how exactly, you can hibernate them in winter if you want 'a break'.

Have you ever spent quality time with these guys? A big one is an absolute joy to handle. A reptile rescuer friend of mine had a 3 foot male red that was a total lap dog. He came up for a treat of canned dog food and would follow people around for a scratch on the chin. If you search tegu on youtube, there is a video made by the owner of thetegu.com and Sisco Reptiles. His tegus will come to HIM. Not for food. He walks into his enclosure and they swarm to get onto his lap, the whole time the fresh food is sitting to his left. He takes his tegus outdoors to the park, and they follow him around even without a harness. Tegus are easily the #1 most fun reptile to handle, hands down. These guys are like monitors on sleeping pills LOL

I would go for a blue as well. But honestly even on kingsnake and from breeders they're hard to find and go fast. Close second would be a varnyard B&W. If you end up liking them and have the money then look for rarer albino's.

I've actually wanted a tegu for a while. Holding off til the urge bites me and I just can't hold out any longer. Last albino's I've seen were 1500.00 a peice and personally I would suggest you get a more common even blue variant than invest that kind of money in something that is your first.

Even if you CAN find albinos or snows, stick to the other varieties. If you accidentally do something or miss some important factor in your husbandry... Youre out of $1000. Still, Im not trying to say you should go bargain hunting, you always end up with a cruddy animal that way. And dude, if youre going to get something as expensive as an albino, youre practically obligated to breed them. You can make moola as well... But when youre just starting something its not a good idea to breed unless you really get the hang of it.

yeah my area is nice and clean, never heard of that kind of enclosure, maybe seen them but a different name maybe?

Umm I used to go and hang with the one at LLL reptile a while ago, and a couple friends used to have them.

Also just saw that vid yesterday, and thats what made me say "thats the one for me" ahaha. But yeah I love the red tegus and Ive seen and heard that they need more vegies and fruits in there diet than others, thats another reason I like them more.

Yeah I figured they were that much, and yeah I woudnt go rush into breeding anything, especially when Ive never had any of my own before. If I can find blues Ill look into them more, if not im sticking with the reds.

I can get snows for $200, or will soon ones My breeder gets his supply up, right now he only has a few pairs and is getting his colony started.
