starting to plan my 2500 gal.

I haven't started to build, I am just buying the materials now. I am working on the concept sketches now. I will post them when I am finished, I know why I am not an architect now. lol.

ok here's the first concept art. This is basically the skeleton with glass. The sides bottom and back are going to be covered in thick plywood. Not sure of the thickness yet. It's going to be super strong though. If you guys have and questions or concerns on the design just post it here. Again I have never built an aquaruim before I have only built a box to insulate a pond. This looks like it will be much easier than the freaking pond. lol. I don't have to cut a round hole, with places for struts ever 18 inches in the plywood to fit a pond exactly. Framing up a round pond I am sure was way more aggrevating than putting in a window. I guess from looking at my concept the windows will be more like 3 1/2' x around 5'. Still not sure on the thickness, the water height should be around 3 1/2 or 4 ft. All of the beams will be interlocking in my design. Anyone see any problems with this? I know in the pic it looks like they are just cut and put end to end, but they all are interlocking so that they run the full length depending on which way they go. I think this would be a ver strong way of building. I will use lag bolts on the parts that interlock, and countersink them so that I can put washers, and fill the holes later. I just really need some sound ideas to procede. I want to make sure this thing is going to hold up! I also need to take the measurements from this drawing and figure up how much wood I need!

that concept is looking good,
do you have anything planned as far as plumbing?

oh and I just thought about it there will definitely be some center bracing going on so don't worry about that. I am going to build a platform on each end that's about 2 1/2' over each side of the aquarium. For easy maintenece and fish removal, and adding. I will also be making some kind of cover and lighting system to hang over top of it. There will only be about 2-3ft of space behind it, and the doorway to the garage will be about 4' from the left side as you are looking at it from the front, and there will only be about 10-12' on the other side which is occupied by the pond, which may or may not loose it's protective covering to make more room now that it's inside! lol, irony! Don't worry there's still plenty of room for 2 cars after all of that!

Thinking of running two DIY wet/dry systems off the back running to the wall. I would just make these out of leftover wood or wood that I have to buy seperate lol. Run the full length of the back of the tank. Use 4-2,000gph return pumps placed evenly across the back, but at varying heights. That would make each filter about 6'x3'x2/12 or 3'. There would be two, plus I might eventually buy one of those really nice wet dry filters for koi ponds, around $1000 a piece. Not sure. I am still gathering materials and ideas. I want to start building next month and hopefully have it finished before the end of summer. Then stock it with about 200,000 guppies, jk, lol! Any suggestions on the filtration would be helpfull. I am going to try to get some inline heaters made for jacuzzis, and some UV filters also. Am I missing anything?

the more I looked at it the more confusing that pic was seeing as how it is supposed to be a skeleton with glass. Here this will show the open spaces better. They will be filled with insulation, and plywood!

anyone see anything wrong with the structural integrity of the mochup here? The bottom frame is 6"x4" boards, and the front center beam is 6x4 also, the rest is 4x4", again the dimensions are 12'x8'x4'! Thanks

The boards all interlock.
