Depends on how thick the glass needs to be, and how much it's gonna cost. Also not sure if doing that will decrease the structural integrity of it. Since in my head this thing will be skinned inside and out with 1/2"-1" plywood. Your suggestion is the most desirable, but my wallet limits my dream. I am hoping to stay under $3500. We'll see though. Any structural engineers have any inputs? Thanks for the suggestion by the way, if possible I will do it, but I think i will stick with front view for now.
Since when do they have 1'' plywood? I would get 3/4'' plywood with as many plys as you can find because the more ply's the stronger. I would sheath the inside with two sheets of 3/4'' plywood and another smaller one to go over it just to be on the safe side.

decided that I am building 2 tanks one in the area of 250 gals and the other 2500 gals. I have purchased some of the tools that I will need to make this project happen. Still need to buy the wood. I decided to make the smaller tank first because I have some fish in need of a go between tank. My big rtc x tsn is in my 350 gal pond until the big tank is finished, but my other catfish have no where to go until then so I have to kinda detour and make a tank for them first. That way they can grow big enough to eventually share the big tank with the hybrid. I am looking for some major catfish to go in this aquarium. Hopefully I can find a Brachyplatystoma filamentosum to go in it. lol. I'll keep you guys updated. If I were rich this would go quicker, but sadly I am not, and can only spend about $100 every two weeks on this project so it might take a while to finish lol.

An extremely huge Catfish, possibly the largest in the World. Obviously these fish are best suited to outdoor ponds or public aquariums. If kept in the proper habitat, they may reach a weight of over 300 pounds. They have a typical Pimelodid body that's tan in color. They should be kept in slightly brackish water.

Found a few sites that had info on them...

oh, don't worry I know tons about the species. It would be a dream come true for a catfish hobbyist like myself to keep such a species. Most people that have tanks the size of mine are happy with arapaima gigas, I would like to do the catfish equivalent. Problem is convincing someone to import one of these bad boys as a baby. If not filamentosum then all the other members of brachyplatystoma, hehe. I am a devilish catfish keeper. I will have 3 huge tanks after I complete these two. I stated 250 gals earlier, but with the dimensions I am using it will be more like 300 + gal to almost 400 gal. I have a 350 gal 6ft dia pond, and then there will be the 2500 gal tank. I have started planning the filtration portion of this project. It will have roughly a 500 gal wet/dry sump filter behind it.

I know most people fiberglass the inside of their plywood aquariums. My question is what is the best material to seal the inside/outside of the aquarium with? I have heard sanitred for concrete but this being plywood what do you guys think?

hmmm, do the 4,000-5,000$ tank I am looking at building over the next year or so, or just do this http://www.quickpools4less.com/securecart/frameset.htm

That's really cheap for a framed above ground pool. No filter, but look at the size, for the price I don't think it can be beat. I could make some custom filters, and use that for a couple of years til I can afford to build my dream tank. What do you guys think?

I am definitely thinking about it, that will eliminate months worth of work, and thousands of dollars. I think I will just buy the pool without filter and make a filter. So this thread might turn into making a custom filter for a huge indoor pond. I figured out that this pond will have a way bigger footprint than the aquarium. I just calculated it and it holds roughly 2100 gals. so not too far off from the tank, and at like 1/40th the price, it's a steal.

Only thing is there will be side panes to look into... Would the pool liner hold up to the catfish you are planning on having in there ?

only one way to find out. The liner is 45 mils. I have been viewing my catfish from the top for some time now. I will still be building the tank this will just give me time to plan and save for it properly.
