Still not sure what to put in my 300 gallon

Or a pair of Maskaheros Argentea mixed with a large school of Thorichthys Aureus or mixteco blue. Get a large group of xiphophorus helleri or montezuemae.


Geez....I can go in and on. I need another tank!

I like puffers but couldn't personally dedicate a 300gallon to 1 fish.

Amph species are trimac, Lyonsi, and the citrinellus types. Most of the citrinellus complex types all look pretty similar. Might be better using one Amph species and mixing them with a parachromis species. Like doing a male Midas and mixing it with a pair of parachromis loiselli and having a small group of an amatitliana species.

Do you think I could get away with 1 male lyonsi a pair of parachromis loiselli and a group of sajica cichlids, also is there anything else I could put in there as this stocking list seems rather small.

I don't think that looks small at all, when you have pairs of fish you need to keep numbers much lower than if you avoid them. That's why I recommended all-males.
I think there is a good chance of the loisellei attacking the lyonsi, as it would be the only other comparably-sized cichlid in the tank. I think the pair of loisellei and group of sajica would be cool though. Loisellei are great fish, I miss mine.
 
I've done a big group of amphs plus tankmates in a 300g. Mixed males and females, it's doable if you chop and change a bit and have one larger dominant male.
Butti went on a killing spree eventually at 14" tho

No body can give you a definite answer, all cichlids have different personality to a certain extent.
Saying that the stock list could work, my male lyonsi got to 13 inch and built like a brick. I think you would have enough cichlids in there.

I believe you could. Maybe even make the lyonsi a pair. All three species are different enough from eachother that you shouldn’t see too much violence as long as you provide clearly define territory markers and cover for them to hide.

You can try tk source some rhamdia catfish and Astyanax tetras tk mix in their tk make it biotope correct. If you have difficulty sourcing them, any of the medium sized pimelodids Fromm South America and some of the larger tetras like brachychalcinius, chalceus, markianna, or triportheus tetras from South America should work.

If you’re thinking of additional cichlid species to mix in, look at astatheros species like rostratus. These are like the ecological equivalent of the eartheaters from South America.
