Hell no once they leave there part of the quota dead or alive when they arrive.

That sucks! Any ideas what the cause of deaths were? Poor packing? etc.?

Problem is the long travel time from Brazil to Asia could be over 48hrs sometimes.

I feel for the guys who bit the bullet on the import, all for the sake of bettering the hobby...Darn shame.

That is why they started captive breeding in Asia/Europe long before the ban.. It's really hard to import from SA with that long of a flight time, and it is much more cost effective to just keep wild caught breeding stock and breed them and not roll the dice on import DOAs...

How many rays were shipped?

I will ask my exporter in Brazil how many all he told me was that he sent the first order to Japan this week and 70% were DOA.

Hi,

I wonder, what the actual price for regular captive bred leos is about in china?

Regards
Stefan

CB pups 4-5", 22,000 RMB a pair. That's about $3,221 USD, opening price. Some negotiation room. These are average looking leos, and from a shop that doesn't specialize in rarer rays leos. The specialty shops (only do leos, pearls, p14, etc) are still trying to fetch 35,000 RMB a pair. But I do sense a real feeling of nervousness among the breeders. Most would agree that the price is softening.

Mike, that exporter is from Manaus ???

Today, just one hour ago, I met an importer and had him call to one exporter in Belem and I got some info.

The exporter in Belem got their quota a week ago.
And 2 exporters of them did recieve Leo yesterday finally from the union(fisherman) in rio Xingu. I heard both shipper names. They will start shipping the Leo next week.
According to information from the customs, the Ray is not being shipped from Belem by them yet.

The union in Xingu can send(sell) 450 Leo to other Brazilian exporters each month. ( There is no exporter around Rio Xingu)
In a word, about 600 fish are scheduled to be had dealings with this month by the end of next month.

Regarding Henlei, the fisherman is collecting them in Maraba, but he dosen't sell any henlei to the union(exporters) in Belem yet.
Only 7-8 of exporters can handle Henlei in Belem. There are not a lot of numbers of the Henlei that each exporter can send....
