Stingray not eating and acting scared of food?!?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm sorry things took a turn. I think you should continue the treatment for the sake of the survivors.

He’s made it through the night n no curl this morning which is fab!
Still not eating, it’s been about 12 days roughly with no food so he’s gonna need to start soon.
Showed no interest with this mornings feed.

Instructions are very vague on the bottle, when you say ‘continue treatment’ do I hold back water changes for a few days? To keep it in the system. Or do waterchanges and top up a teaspoon of medication.
Thanks for your help!

Keep your usual water change regimen to preserve your water quality. From what I have read praziquantel is much more stable in the water column than most medications. You only need to dose with each water change. Some repeat the initial dosage every other day, which is tolerated by the fish (safe med) but may not have that much of an increased impact compared to the recommended dosage.

I would redose for the entire tank volume after each water change. Even if I only did a 60% water change.

Update: no change in the pearl, still not eating, has been around 18days now. Unfortunately feeling like I’ve just gotta watch him starve himself to death.

Live blackworms have worked for me when nightcrawlers have failed. Order them online they ship overnight.

Update... my lil mate is still with me! He refused the blackworms, total shock, (I’ve now set up a tank and am breeding the worms myself... worth a try)
Not much change in behaviour. Started reacting to food a couple of days a go but not eating it. Better than before as he was freaking out when food went near him, his instincts are definitely kicking in. Been putting in mealworms daily and I think he did eat one last night but not totally sure, didn’t see him go over but was acting like he was eating. It will be 4 weeks since I last 100% see him eat in a few days. Hope he gets back to normal soon.

The blackworms will live and survive in your tank substrate. If you are barebottom they will collect in little piles/colonies around the tank bottoms. Leave them in there. The ray may eat after hours.

He must have eaten them then cos they all went unles they got blown into the other half with my bd’s. They are not available here like they are out in the states, had to order cultivating ones, ordered another batch of what must have been full grown but a teaspoon of them are £6 so thought I’d try cultivating them myself.
I watched him today nibbling at a silverside (silverfish frozen) he kept nibbling and turning it, I’ve cut em into smaller bits so we’ll see when I feed tonight.
Let’s hope he’s turned the corner...
I want all my rays to be together again!
I’ll post a few pics of my beauties xx
