Stocking a 75 and Angelfish Tank Mates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okay back, would 5 angels, 5 keyholes and a female convict work? I am willing to return the convict if anything happens and if so will probably up the number of angels and keyholes back to 6 of each.

Ahahaha, i rushed through dinner searched up all the fish you guys listed and spent a while reading things about them after i decided i didn't want them and then responded. Like how did I end up at dwarf Oscars? I already forgot the scientific name.

Astronotus Crassipinnis

Yes those ones, lovely but are very rare and I have no clue on their care. But there is a seller on Facebook selling them for 50 bucks a pop. More or less I'm forgetting.

I disagree with some of the advice you have been given in this thread. I would not even consider putting a convict with angels and keyholes in a 75.
Convicts are not from South America and would destroy a group of keyholes in the confines of a 75.
I would not underestimate angels for aggressive behaviour either. Yes, I would try a group of 6 but be prepared to separate once they hit maturity and start spawning. I have 9 in a 210 gallon and they can get very nasty when defending eggs.
I would stick with your original suggestion of 6 angels and six keyholes. Maybe add an anscistrus catfish.
This would keep to an amazonian theme as all these fish can be found together in the French Guyana.
You may have to separate fish later down the line but at least this will stand a fair chance of working for the longterm.

Alright, that sounds good to me. But do you have any other suggestions for catfish, not really a fan of bristlenose. Or can I include a small school of rummies or such?

There are lots of small peaceful catfish from South America that would work. Whiptails are nice fish and worth considering as are hoplo catfish and portholes. Corydoras would also work.
Lots of tetra species would eventually be eaten by angels. If you add tetras stick to the deeper bodied types like black widows, bleeding heart or diamond tetras.
Silver hatchet fish could also work.

How about i cut all the tetras and just have a small shoal of Bolivian rams instead? I heard that they sometimes shoal when not breeding.

Oh, wouldnt it be possible to do 5 angels, 4 keyholes and 5-6 bolivians? or 5 angels, 4-6 keyholes and 10 rummynose tetras?
