I wish I could plop festae in there. Unfortunately they would murderize everyone else.

Peacock bass are awesome. Same problem though. I'd be throwing them in with laid back fish who couldn't defend themselves. Since we already have most of those fish they get first dibs on the new tank. You bet there will be pics!

We went with Metynnis hypsauchen silver dollars because the red hooks were insanely expensive. These guys have red anal fins but they don't have the "hook" appearance. Still really cool. They are tiny things at the moment but are being raised in one of the nursery tanks like everyone else until they are big enough not to be eaten. We have fish everywhere in grow out tanks and some smuggled into our community tanks. They should be big enough not to disappear in the depths of the new tank soon. The silver Aro is already a foot long and successfully competing with Oscars for food. Just a few months ago he looked like an earthworm. Now the Os refer to him as "Boss."

Next stop: Glass supplier, where we get to find out just how expensive building a large acrylic tank is going to be. Judging by the price of prebuilt acrylic tanks of comparable size for sale online... not cheap.

Jexnell, I have to tell you again that you are very lucky to live near Wet Spot. Shipping fish effectively doubles the cost and you miss out on getting to pick your own. We've never been disappointed with anything they've sent us though. It's probably a bad sign that they recognize my name when I call up. :p

Bah. My husband's attitude is rubbing off on me. He's counting every penny and I'm trying to get him to just be happy about the beautiful display of fishies. It seems to be working the other way.
