Hey, long time lurker first time posting.

I have a 110g that I'm just finishing up some work on and am looking for stocking suggestions and recommendations.

I got my first ever cichlids a few weeks ago, 6 young blue acara, they are currently about 2 inchs. I'm growing these guys out in the hopes of getting a breeding pair at which stage I will likely rehome the remaining 4.

I'm wondering what other fish I could keep with them in the 110g that will hold there own against a breeding pair and will be happy kept in the same biotype.

I've been on the look out for Hyphessobrycon heliacus for some time, I'm not sure if they are available in Australia. Should have mentioned that earlier there are pretty strict limitations on what is imported and sold here.

There are a few different geophagus that I have been looking at but have yet to find any healthy ones. I was considering Mikrogeophagus altispinosus, would they be ok with the acara?

I'm currently keeping some emperor tetras with them but I haven't decided if I should move them into the 110 with the acara. The acara seem completely unfazed by them so far.

Yes, they should be fine. Think the emperor tetras would be nice too.

The pictus catfish sound interesting, I might keep them in mind when I upgrade my other 55g down the line.

I adore angelfish but I wasn't sure you could keep them with the blue acara. My LFS had some beautiful platinums last week. Might swing by on the weekend and see if they still have any. :)

angels are a little more aggressive than most people think especially when they get big. They do well with mellower cichlids like blue acara. Might have some torn fins when the acara breed but in a 110 gallon they should be able to stay far enough away from them. I’m actually using angels as dithers for a group of 2-3 inch jaguars right now. The jags are skittish and hide without them . The angels are actually breeding in that tank but I will be pulling them in a month or 2 when the jags get 4-5 inches .

Some deeper bodied tetras like Hyphessobrycon sp. should be fine. Some that come to mind would be the Bleeding heart tetra (Hyphessobrycon erythrostigma) Lemon tetra (Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis), or could do diamond tetra ( Moenkhausia pittieri).

There are many African characins that are larger that would work as well: Congo tetra ( phenocogrammus interuptus), Lamp-eye Congo tetra ( phenocogrammus auentiuus), alestopetersius brichardii, nigroptersus, caudalis, or smykala. I have several of these varieties if would like to see what they look like.

I think a large group of biotodoma cupidos would be great in this size tank. I have these as well and they are beautiful: colorful and great personality.
