The best way to get them in the mood is to feed live food, brine shrimp blackworms and tubifex work for me everytime. I was able to breed a midas pair in 3week from them being in a grow out tank. Your right convicts are great parents, parrot cichlids are good parents too. I hope they raise this batch so i can have a good start on this project, when i make the blue marbles im going to pair it up with a sajica cichlid that will be hot.

Yeah that's what I was planning but I don't have no brine shrimp or blood worms at the moment so I have to get so tomorrow when I go to the in laws. For now pellets seem to be doing the trick.

Oh cool. I didn't want you guys to get disappointed if your first batch were all normal convicts. I know inbreeding can lead to higher probabilities of undesirable traits and mutation. I'm not sure if line breeding works better with cichlids. You can try picking the best female of the brood and breed it with the father and/or best male and breed it with the mother?

I wasn't going to be disappointed. I planned for this for a while now. Yes line breeding works in cichlids. It would actually be better then inbreeding.

Well so far so good, none of the eggs are infertile ( Didnt turn white) plus i can see there eyes and black markings in the eggs. I never been so happy about a convict batch in my life lol all the species of cichlid i bred and here im excited about a convict project. Im really excited about this project and i will be line breeding these guys once i see some trait that stand out to me.

Atleast your having better luck then I am. I'm not sure what is the problem but they haven't even attempted to lay yet.

Now I put thought to it. It has to be either me not feeding frozen and live foods or they need a dither to bond the pair

It may be that u dont have live foods, convicts are one of those cichlids that doesnt need dither fish. Or you should put some more female calicos in there so he can pick.

I think its the food cause when i bought them I watched them tag team the other cons in the tank with em.

i am going to do some line breeding with cons as soon as i can get a white con. All my con fry have whitish bodies until they are fully grown and i currently have a female fry i raised that is absolutely beautiful! Gonna look for a bunch of white cons. If youre selling them let me know if you have albinos. I just found a huge group of con fry today in my tank. Scooped out a good amount and puth them in seperate tanks. Wish me luck. I might even interbreed fry from an older batch to a newer batch when they are eventually big enough. I forgot where but i saw calico cons for $25.

I Just got a 1.25" calico con for 3$ 0.0 wonder what the outcome will be breeding with a black female
