Thats true but sometimes it adds stress on them and do. I know I learned that the hard way with my first pink con pair
 
It really depends on your tank setup and the setup really plays a big part of cons personality. If you have a tank setup like i do which is caves with slate big rocks and flowerpots covering the whole tank the convicts tend to be more protective of there breeding spots due to comfort and not sensitive to action outside of the tank. If you have a tank setup with very little cover and open spaces then yes they will get spooked, so decorate your tank well and you will get the most interesting personality and hardiness from your cons.

I guess your right Ernie. I changed around my tank. Added a few more decor and and stacked some flat slate rocks to make caves. They like it more now.
 
Told ya, lol they love it. That cuts out all of problems and believe it or not you can keep more cons in one tank this way because they will value that cave, and when there is alot of caves they seem to tolerate each other in closer distances.
 
Well I can't put anymore fish in that 15. But I was thinking about getting a 55 and having the 15 as a fry grow out.
 
I was thinking the same thing but using the 15 to put best looking males and females to let them pair up
