I was in El Paso Tx. and i walk into this rather nice looking petstore in Basset Center.

I walk back to the fish section and see a rather nice collection of EBJDs.
They had a very very pretty male for $20.00.
I get an employee to come back there and get me that one male.
He got this real wierd look on his face almost like he was in pain.
He asked me if i was sure i wanted it and if i had anyother fish in the tank. i said yeah. He told me it wasnt a good idea to have any tank mates becuase these fish were capable of delivering a powerful shock.:screwy:

I left without the fish.

i sold some my tinfoils to this pets store.

i come back the next week. and my 5 inch and 6 inch tinfoils are bangin into the walls of a nice little ten gallon labeled pacu $22.00.

i told the owner that they were tinfoil barbs and she looked at me like i was stupid. she then tried to explain to me that she had been in the fish "buisness" since before i was born.
Then i said that since you seem to know everything i asked her what kind of catfish she had for sale. i pointed at a large striped raphael and she told me that it was a plecostumus. and then again said that she had been in the fish buisness since before i was born.

If she had known anything at all she would have been trying to sell "pacu"
for $22.00

my friend was really impressed when i firt got my 75g and wanted to start his own. he's a total cheap-@$$ so i had to lend him a filter and a heater i had lying around. and he decided to go to meijer (big, crappy, cheap chain (not even pet chain) around here) and buys like 20 fish for a 10 gal. doesn't even cycle it. all his fish die (duh) so he asks me for more help i go over to his house CLEAN the tank, something he didn't do initially, adjust the heater and make the filter pad for him (whisper make-it-yourself kind of filter) and we went off to buy some fish after 2 weeks of cycling. i took him to petland and we got 3 longfinned zebra danios for 88c a peice. they were in the tank for a week. then he told me he wanted more fish (there was some room left int eh tank so why not?) he said that petland was too expensive and insisted that we go to meijer. (whatever it's his money) we get there and i see that they have kuhli loaches for sale he sees them and falls in love. so he asksthe guy how big they get, cause i didn't really know (this was a LONG time ago) and the guy (whos obviously toasted out of his mine) islike "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, i dont know let me call my buddy. hey jeff how big to the kuhli loachfngjnsfjkhs........." and he begins to walk off to god-knows-where. after like 5 minutes i grab the net abnd scoop up 2 loaches and a BEAUTIFUL twin lyre swordtail. and write tdown the SKUof the cheaspest two fish there and got the F*&%@$ out of there!

NEVER again will i even consider walking in that store for whatever reasons!

hmm you you ARE right i mean $#!7 i put differnt SKUs on fish if they ever have anything good THEN i'll go there
(but how will i know untill i go?)

After reading all these great stories, its my turn now ;)

Well, When I first started the hobby in November 2006 with a 10 gallon tank, I went off to Petland to buy 3 dempseys. Very small, about 2 inches each. I ask one of the girls working there, can I get three dempseys? She says sure. She walks to the dempsey tank, stands there for a few seconds, stares at the tank, and tells me hold on. Me, having done my research before buying fish told her which ones were dempseys. She didnt believe me and went to go ask another employee. The other employee told her " just get the ones with stripes on em." UNfortunately, this tank was a mix of dempseys AND JAGS!!!(MANAGUESE) she gave me the bag and I bought them. After bringing them to MFK and getting confirmed there was one managuese, i went back and returned the one managuense out of the 3. They said sorry and they gave me a discount :)

Attention petco and petsmart employees!

you guys are cry babies!
shut up and do your job,!
customers are more valued than employees to corporate.
Just catch the fish , skimp on the feeders, black bag the dead fish, do a dead run every hour, learn how to catch fish and what the fish are called!
,,,,
And hook it up with a free fish once in a while.. Its not like you cant just write the fish off as dead! Duh! You've personally killed fish no matter what so why not give some away or one at least,,,..

I ask for 40 feeder crickets and the lady hands me 25 with 10 dead ones,,
so if I ask for 100 feeder goldfish , I will get 45 live ones. most die if not all.. petco and petsmart are SHIESTY!!!

I used to secretly give out plenty of extra feeders! corporate loved me.
In the end I attracted alot of business , because i was friendly , professional and knowledgable , you should try that also.

Oh yeah if a fish is dying and a knowledgable customer is willing to take them off your hands, you are allowed to give it to them for free! Duh. call it adoption. Ask corporate if you can do this! Duh!! For example, if a fish just got left on your counter, and you do not have the resources to care for it. You should just give the fish away if its dying ,, not sell it to someone that works harder than you do!. And study hard,, its a science , not a job!

Know it all ex-employee customers who are happy to whine and complain, wanting something for free, not really needing to explain why they are no longer employed.
