Stupid things you hear at petshops.

I went into petsmart today and did my darnedest to explain the need for bacteria and the way a tank cycles and the best I kept getting back was so I just need to leave the tank dirty. SMH here just use the Prime it's the best help your gonna get....

A "Pets Supplies Plus" store near me keeps some tanks of about 4in goldfish. they are about 10 gallon tanks(by estimating from looking) with(in some of the tanks) up to 50 of these goldfish! they have at least 40 bettas in little cups with no holes or anything for at least a TINY bit of air. and they keep a little like 20 gal tank with like 10 JD's 7 oscars and a few firemouths(all juvies at like 3 in, but still that crazy.

i got kicked out last week for screaming at they"fish area manager" for telling a lady and her kid (like 5 years old) that they couldnt put a goldfish in a bowl. he told them that in their like 3 gallon bowl they could put in up to 10 "feeder goldfish(comets)" 1 or 2 plecos( he called them "algae eaters") and a school of 10 neon tetras.(at least he knows tetras go in a school). all of those fish in a 3 gallon tank....insane.

before that(like a month ago) i told the employee that they should move one of those firemouths into a new tank(im talking about the one above) because the others were attacking it. so he follows me over to look and by that time the fish was almost in half(brutal fish!) and he said they were just playing and walked away!

and BTW, this isnt were i buy my fish from. i buy my fish from 2 different good stores near me. this is just were i buy my snakes food because it is only like 5 min away when i walk. im a car it like 1 min. i just look around when i go there.

They should be closed down for treating the fish so badly. I cant believe they consider themselves a fish store! It more of a fish jail with employees that are mindless and don't know anything about fish.

i also work at a pet store. It is locally owned so thankfully they hire people who know how to care for fish. I love my fish but I looked like an amature to my manager. I was in charge of reptiles. So most my hilarious stuff I hear is from customers asking me if it is true.
 
Lmfao at petsmart one time some kid came in while I was looking at fish (guessing he was 6?) And he starts poking the current manager selling fish. This is while we are having a conversation. The lady turns and asks "yes?" The kid doesn't say anything, but he walks up to the tank full of comets points and says "that ones dead" the lady ignores him after saying thank you to him. So we start talking again about my orders, then the little kid walks up again "scu-mee, scu-mee,scu-mee!" At this point I'm pissed at this little kid which keeps interupting for stupid reasons that will be taken care of. The woman replies kindly "yes" the kid takes her over to the big koi tank (all koi over 6") and he says "i wan dat wun"(sorry if typing is weird trying to emphasize his pronunciations) the lady asks "do you have any parents with you?" He goes "oh yeah my mommy and daddy are over there." He points and walks away. After about 5 minutes of him being gone and me now picking out fish the kid comes back! (lord save me! lol) this time with two parents. He goes ONCE AGAIN and interrupts this woman's current actions which are getting me fish. He then says "come here" so the woman asks me to hold on a minute and I say okay. I walk over to the people while looking at certain fish and moving down the aisle not to be rude like I'm spying on them. I overhear the parents arguing with this woman about how big of a tank this 6"+ koi needs! They are stating the normal 1" per gallon rule! So they keep arguing until I step in and back the woman up as I could tell she's getting aggitated! The couple then proceeds to argue with me. By now the woman walked back and started getting my fish again. So this couple continued to argue with me sentence after sentence how this 6"+ koi only needs a 20 gallon and that he won't get any bigger than the tank. I was so ready to curse the couple off! Most ignorant people I've ever met! So I just walked away after saying once again how they have no idea what they are talking about. I walk up to the fish woman and I see her histerically laughing. She then says "now you know how i feel!" She then explained how almost every if not every day people come in thinking fish only need 1 gallon of water per inch! I believe this is crazy! If it was possible I wish we can completely expel this whole 1" per gallon rule! So annoying! People have their minds set on it too!

when I was new in to the hobby I looked at a list of lps looking for piranhas. This was from the one place I called.

Me- hi I was calling to see if you guys carry piranhas. ( have them In stock)
worker- you mean pull them out of water and walk around the house with them! NO! why whould you even think about doing that!
Me- no do you have them in stock at your store.
worker- how about you come and find out! ( I live about 45 mins away)

i know right! i just when today and they have a tank that i think is forty gallons with one 2in dwarf puffer in it. i dont understand why they would put a 2in puffer in a 40 gal and 40 4-6in goldfish in a 10 or 15 gallon. even a forty would be better than a 10 for the goldfish but should be well over 200 for that many
 
Today someone came in gasping, and asked if we sold soda? When we said no but the dollar store (that's connected to our building) does, she freaked out about how we should sell soda, and that she's so thirsty, then turned around bought dog food and left, didn't even go to the dollar store

And someone else came in and wanted a refund (very common in a place like petco, and understandable) but he wanted a refund, not on the large Dempsey he bought, but the tons of community fish it killed... Mind you we did not sell him nor even realize he had community tank when we sold him the Dempsey... He even threatened our manager, and cops had to be called. He was upset cuz his community tank he's had for several years was wiped out in one night due to this mistake... I mean I feel bad for him cuz he just didn't know any better, but I guess that's why you always do your research before buying new fish :-/ he showed us pics too, it was a nice setup he had, with all nice plants and stuff, I told him he's gotta,ove the Dempsey in order to at least save the plants,I hope he listened...
 
i was in a lfs where i live and a lady asked the guy working how many oscars she could put in a 80 gallon corner tank and he said 4-6 full grown ones, i lost it and told him he was wrong in front of the lady and saved some oscars from death to stupidity :D
