Sump drain size

Depending on how much the extension costs for the tank, I think my Dad would still do that. I think it will be cheaper than the overflows, considering the cheap ones are $80 a piece, and I would need a few.

The worst part about this is he acts like he knows more about the fish than I do. The only experience he's had with fish is killing my Grandmother's fish by turning up the heater to max when he was a kid.

I bought it used. It has pvc attached to the bottom with silicone. It wouldn't look very good with pvc coming out of the sand.

The only way he accepts that he's wrong is when something fails. I'll keep the eheims running, so I'll have some filtration when his set up fails.

If I can convince him to use hob overflows, which pump should I connect to them?
 
Look at eshopps hob over flows. Explain to your dad that gravity drains dont move nearly as much water as full siphon drains. So 3 1 inch gravity fed drains wont be sufficient. I think i sent you those links awhile ago. Show them to him.

I was looking at the CSR overflows. I think I can convince him to use those since they have the ability to attach a pump to keep air out. That was the only reason he didn't like them. He doesn't want the tank to overfill because one of the overflows loses it's siphon. It will probably cost the same or less to get two overflows vs. precut arcylic, so that may help me persuade him to use overflows.
