Here she is today, a hair over 3 chunky inches. When she colors up you can see blue cheek patches, lip, and side spangles. She'll also get an electric blue line on her top fin.

Here's Mongo the father. Purchased from one of the members here. I got Pip from a florida breeder on Ebay. Unlike Pip he's long and arrow shaped. Has one silver and one black eye.

Mongo was just over 2 inches at purchase, around 4" now. His black beard has spread across his gills.

Pip had a total of around 60-70 plus fry. Not bad for her first batch. Unfortunately, about half of them were lost during a water change.

The other fry remained in the main tank and flourished. They eat like every meal is their last. These pics were taken a bit later. Size was pretty uniform, from 1/4 to 1/2 inch. All the babies at this point resemble Pip in color and shape.

Moving forward in time, the fry are changing. Some are stocky like Pip, some are arrow shaped like Mongo. A few are starting to 'fade'. It's a washed out look that resembles an overprint of both parents color/pattern. A couple of blank babies with no stripes pop up. Size here is from 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Some are growing larger.

Most recent pics. Babies are 3/4 to 1+ inch. Huge size differences now. A variation of bars, broken bars, faded bars with dots like Mongo, and blanks. Some of the fry are 3 times the mass of others. The largest ones are built like Pip. None of the elongated ones are largest. The dominant fry fight each other while the others squabble over other turf. None of the big fish care about their fighting.

You can see the crazy size differences now. One group has hulked out and the other has gone bullet shaped. About 60% are large and 40% medium to small.
