Synbranchus marmoratus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It was floating motionless on the surface. Its skin looked all red and some white stuff hanging off it.

If it were alone in the tank, I would have left it die in peace. But there are 5 more eels and the SAL... Also it cost me less then a dollar as it was sold for food. Just seemed like the rational thing to do. Was I wrong?

Well I dunno. To be honest I would not have thought of it in terms of cost, but more as a living thing, that deserved a chance to survive. I would have left it in there, turned the temp up, added salt.

If it looked dead, of course i would have taken it out, but when it started moving I would have given a chance to survive. I've seen fish that were upside down and looked done for come back from the dead.

I am not sure what it is you are saying.

Am I a bad guy know?

Killing helpless fish to save $$$ :FIREdevil

Don't you eat fish? Did these deserve to live?

I didn't want to take any chances that the SAL and other eels get sick.

And due to the accident my tanks are overcrowded.

What do you suggest I should have done.
No way to increase temperature. These eels are native to this area.

Fair enough, I'm not saying you're a bad guy. I'm just saying if something is in your care, I think you should do your best to care for it, keep it alive etc.

But if you thought it was diseased, it could kill your other fish, and you had nowhere else to put it then maybe you did the right thing.

"care for it" - yes, that is why I didn't throw it in the garbage alive, because I care.
"keep it alive" - no Impossible! Unless you are a vegetarian or fish and hunt, you have to kill animals in your care. I didn't eat it because I don't eat eels. But I do not understand why I cant kill animals in my care. Explain!

Because their lives are in your hands. So if I think something has a chance to live, I'll do my best to keep it alive.

If I think something is done for, and has no chance of surviving, I'll kill it.

See what I mean?

Then you couldn't have a farm and eat own meat.

How is it better if you buy it in a store? Somebody does kill it so you can eat it.

OK, that starts making sense now. You mean that I shouldn't be eating anything I am emotionally attached to.
But I do not consider fish pets. Some of them come close to it but not quite.

Back in Montreal I have a cat that is like my family. I'd probably rather eat you than her.

But I got my tanks to make up for the lack of view in my living room. I am no more attached to them than I am to my Apple laptop. And the eels bit me so I hate them. LOL

hahaha, ok fair enough shekes. I guess I just get quite attached to pets. I even have a pet feeder goldfish that I liked and decided not to feed to my snakehead.
