Taking the plunge...again :)

Whats the odds of being able to successfully integrate one shoal into another? I would also like to add one of the 3" piraya from AS once the rbp get to be about 3"+...good idea, bad idea? I'd love to see how big I could raise a piraya in this tank.

All fish are different, especially wc and captive breed

There's NO telling how it will work given that each fish/shoal is different! Enough time/exp and money and you can do it, I've also heard caribes are generally more aggressive then rbp! I would assume raising them all together since young would be a smart way to go!

a 500 gal is a dream...luckyyy

The guy i sold my piraya to added the piraya to rbp. So far so good. But it is just one of those chances. Could the piraya kill the reds? yes. Could the reds kill the piraya? Yes. Could the reds kill the reds? yes. I just know i'd be legit upset if a bunch of $5 a piece reds ate a $100+ fish.

5$ reds?

Not here in indy, all pet stores are 11-20$ for babies and 30$ for 3-5" 50$ for adult. Good first shoal for new Piranha hobbyists!

I would be pissed to say the least if my reds ate a piraya :) But I would love to try, just to see if I could get a piraya up to the 16"+ mark in that size tank. Sadly I have already lost 10 reds..... I had a small oversight on the overlfow box. I had put eggcrate all along the inside perimeter of the box with screen outside that to keep any fish from going down the overflow into the filter. Well, the eggcrate flexed and left about a 1/8" gap between the eggcrate and the inside wall of the overflow which apparantly is all these guys needed to get in.... I have since put in a brace to force the crate up to the walls but its not going to bring the 10 back, I want to slap myself upside the head for this :/ Still have 30 though and that was my original goal was to keep 30 alive, but now thats going to be much tougher since canibalism hasnt started yet :(

Really? Thats outrageous man. $5-7 for baby reds around here (when theyre in stock), $20 or so for 2-4 inch, $40 for anything bigger, the big reds i see here are usually hith/gill curl monsters though.

For $20 a fish, you might as well just go with cariba.

Yea I mean eventually when my shoal is gone, I.e dies, my next shoal will prlly be caribe, I'm in it for the long haul, I will have these fish as long as I have a tank, so maybe in 3-8 years or so ill be looking forward to a new shoal in the future! And I totally agree about the gill curl/HITH , I guess a lot of rbp just have rough and malnurished upbringings! They are the 2nd most neglected aquarium fish!

And wow op losing 25% of your stock that quick is hard but you seem smart, I'm sure another mishap isn't in the future! So sorry.
