wow that is some serious damage, im glad nobody got seriously hurt.
Do you guys think we should replace our heaters after a specific amount of time or just let them run until they stop working.I won't want something like this happening in my tank.
Good luck with getting a new tank from them, they should in theory refund you for your loss.

sadly i 90% sure im out of the hobby. ima sell off everything. hopefully i can get the new tank and i guess ill sell tat off too. if they even send me a new one.
it was crazy tho. the glass shot to the other side of the room.

is that covered under any apt or home owners insurance you might have? I know i've had water damage here to a much greater scale, but it was covered under our insurance....

when you go to replace the tank:
1. don't buy a Marineland tank. get an Aqueon (aka All-Glass) or Oceanic. they are better built anyway.
and
2. Don't buy another Marineland heater. buy Ebo Jager.
I have always been dissapointed with Marineland products and stuff like this just reinforces my position.

And hang in there, i've had probably 15-25 discus die over the course of this year figuring out my caring method. Unbelievably disappointing, frustrating, saddening, and depressing, but i got through it. I am now at over a year and can proudly say, i have figured out how to really care for them properly!! (big accomplishment for me)
Seriously, if they give you any crap about not fixing all the damage, start a petition on here and show them how many people have gotten wind of what happened. I'll be the first to sign, as their stupid heaters have sent a jolt of electicity through me.
hah.. wish it was tat easy. im just a student. now i needa do all this stuff. lucky i dont got tat much fish anymore. just 9 dats 2 clown knife and 4 bichers. gonno just sell off the dats i guess and wat ever my brother wants to do with the other fishes. oh and ima try to sell off my 200g tank i guess
