tank cycling and bacterial bloom

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If your tank still looks like it does in the clear pic, I personaly wouldn't go as far as 100%. I do 50% every 2-3 days (yes, I'm overstocked). I do so to keep nitrates down, as well as aid in growth. My lights tend to be on for a good 14-15 hours (just because I never remember to get a timer when I'm out, maybe this will remind me), and I have no issues. Just keep up on your changes.

You need to "black out" the tank. Feed the fish real good today and then cover it with a big blanket or anything that will black it out as close to 100% as you can get. Do this for a week and do not remove the blanket for anything. Do not even peak for a second. The fish will not need to be fed for a week. They will be absolutely fine. When you uncover the tank do a 50% water change and enjoy your new clear water :)

 wouldnt it just go through a quick cycle with the established filter in. and the algae bloom will be prevented from shorter light durations.

No....Havn't you already tried this?
