tank cycling and bacterial bloom

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The filter your using on that tank is too small for the bio-load...your over feeding and the tanks exposed to too much light... changing just one thing wont fully correct it. Algae needs lots of light and plenty of food. When you talking about free algee in the water like your first picture...if you don't correct the other problems.....massive warer changes only promote the growth of MORE algae...

sigh. the tank is looking alot like my 4th picture again. i think ima get a better filter and wait it out patiently this time.

Blackout the tank. You will...1 reduce the light....2. reduce the feeding....3. give your filter enough time to catch up to the bioload.......

1. i have my jardini and hes too young to be starved and im afraid to move him to another tank since hes small enough to be eaten
2. should i take out the established filter and use a new one?

lol because its an insert pad and its pretty old so its gonna clog up in a while. topfin recommends changing the pad every 3-4 weeks.

Top fin wants you to buy more....If you get a lot of "gunk" in 3 weeks time, you are overfeeding. When it is time to rinse the "gunk" off, just take a bucket of tank water out like usual during a water change and slosh it around until the gunk comes off. Reuse them until they fall apart. You should look into a better filter.

Just add anothe larger filter and let it establish itself....either an Emporer 400 or an Aqua clear 70. They have SEPERATE mechanical and biological media so this problem wont keep cropping up.

Your jar....in fact ALL of your fish can easilly go for a week without food...switching to and every other day feeding schedule WITHOUT increasing the amount of food will not harm them in any way...

thats what i used to do but it was because i was tired of buying filter bags. if i get a new filter is the eheim professional 3 worth the money or is it just high tech extras. it looks like the best thing ever made for aquariums.

How big are your taks? I do not think I saw that part....
