tank dilema - which tank to buy?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the taller viewing window is always nice, personally i dont like the look of black silicon, but a bigger tank for less money is a no brainer IMO, but your the one who needs to live with the choice

another peice of the puzzle is this:

the black silicone tank only has a 90 day warranty.

the clear one (All-glass/Aqueon) has a lifetime warranty..

the people at the LFS are suggesting that they feel that the All-glass tank is the better constructed of the two..even though I have had tanks from the other manufacturer running straight for 16 years..although its true they have never been moved or even emptied...

hopefully, warranty is something we hope to never use.. but its there if you need it.

lifetime is better than a mere 90 days no?

I am sort of leaning more towards the clear one now...

The larger tank with the lifetime warranty is def. the way to go.

If you absolutely hate the clear silicon you can always replace it with black, or simply paint the back and sides black and you won't even notice it.

thread update:

My LFS contacted Aqueon directly and you CAN get them to make standard tanks with black silicone (normally, only their bowfronts have black silicone), for $40 more.

so, I just ordered an Aqueon 150 gallon 72x18x29 with black silicone..

its special order and takes 4-6 weeks to come in, but its ordered..:)

Congratulations! Keep us updated...with pics! :D

thanks. you can bet I will post pics.

the local manufacturer wanted a FORTUNE for a 29" tall 150g tank with black silicone (more than the price of a 180).

because for some reason they insisted on stepping up to 5/8" thick glass...

nice. but not necessary as far as I understand it.

all the 210's and 220's out there are made with 1/2 inch and they don't break so I can't see the need to go up to 5/8" for a 150...
