i agree completely camph. don't mean to derail but 120$ on 2 fish is absolutely absurd!! even if they're "wildcaught". with the money people spent on shipping they can get a few discus, a tigrinus catfish, a growout tank, or a large amount of feeders/expensive fish food! I have never purchased from rapps before and i never will. maybe if im feeling generous enough to give away money for free....

Well some people shop at Neiman Marcus and others shop at Kmart, but let me assure you that either way, you get what you pay for.

Big difference..........call me a "wacko" or a "non-dedicated fish-keeper" but I would much rather spend $110 on a beautiful Tigrinus Catfish or a Black Arowana instead of spending that money on shipping for 2 wildcaught cichlids.

You didn't have to bring Jeff Rapps back into it. You could have simply left it at "I wouldn't pay that much for 2 cichlids because I'm a catfish and arowana lover".

Remember, you're in the CA/SA Cichlid forum so don't you think maybe a cichlid fan would rather have a pair of cichlids? Especially one of the most beautiful SA cichlids. People might agree with you more in the catfish forum.

Besides, I paid $150 for my Tig plus shipping. Most people are looking at $400-$600 to buy one. Not everyone has access to the $110 Tigs you can get.

I copied this from http://tangledupincichlids.com/stock.html.

‘Cichlasoma’ festae

4-4.5” 20.00 wild real Ecuador ‘red terror’ of very nice size and coloring up
“ “
5-5.5” 30.00 male, 40.00 fem young adults of wild Ecuador ‘red terror’ with gorgeous color

$20.00 for a 4-4.5" F0 Festae is a good deal imo.

Go thru his entire stocklist. His prices aren't higher than ANY lfs in my part of the world. It's the shipping that makes it higher. The more fish you buy, the better the deal. Group orders seem to be popular with some.

Really,, I don't know what good bashing Mr. Rapps is going to do. I'm under the impression that his reputation is pretty secure. If you don't care for his prices or his shipping costs that's good for you. I personally plan on ordering some Media Luna's the next time they show up on his stock list. If you're still watching this thread.. any idea on when you'll be getting more?

And to stay on topic,, for a pair of festae 90's groovy, 125's better. :)

exactly. cichlid forum. Festae=pwn. i would pay 50-60 bucks (canadian however) for a wc festae. that is aboot what Mr. Rapps is charging and i am under the impression that he is pretty well the best there is when it comes to new world cichlids. this thread isnt about Mr. Rapps' prices tho its about whether or not the lad can keep his festae (which hes already paid for i do believe) in the previously specified tank size(s).

Actually........before you continue to shove words into my mouth I want to confirm that I'm a "fish lover" and not an "Arowana and catfish lover". I am also well aware that I was posting in the SA/CA cichlid forum. I love cichlids, catfish, arowanas, and saltwater fish. I love it all. You must have completely misunderstood me. :screwy::screwy:

I just wanted to mention that all the hard earned cash that goes into shipping can get you a beautiful showy fish whether it's a Tigrinus, Arowana, or perhaps a few CA/SA cichlids such as Umbee's or Festae's. Also, you're right, I didn't have to bring Jeff Rapps into it but then again he is the one of the main reasons why so many people spend ridiculous amounts of money on shipping. I just wanted to prove my point that you could've gotten a lot more for what you paid for. Of course, if money isn't a deal for you then this doesn't concern you whatsoever. You can try to belittle me all you want but all I am doing is looking out for my fellow fish lover friends so that they don't become scammed or robbed of their money during these hard economic times where people and their businesses will do the dirty to pay for their mortgages and bills. I'm not pointing out any names. Just trying to give my fish loving friends a little advice and a heads up before they whip out their wallets and credit cards.

Sorry if I misunderstood you. I was just irked by the Rapps comment I guess. He's one of the most respected vender/breeders in the cichlid community. Mr. Rapps is kind of a busy guy and doesn't have time to defend his pricing on fish forums so I thought I'd do it for him. And I wasn't trying to belittle you, I was making a point. Jeff offers very competitive pricing. Go to your lfs and take a picture of a $20 WC Festae for sale.

I think the general consensus is that his tank will be fine for some time but will eventually have to upgrade. Some people think he should upgrade now, others say it's ok to wait.

My opinion is that even if not growing them out in the eventual tank, said tank should at least be in the person's possesion and available when the time comes, which is often quicker than they think.

exactly what i said a few pages back. ya i think its always a good idea to be able to house a fish you purchase for you will never know when you hit financial difficulties or difficulties of another sort which would make acquiring the right tank for that fish more problematic than originally intended.
