I would suggest a minimum of a 75 gal tank for one Oscar and one Sev…

I also often say that “minimum requirements = minimum happiness for both you and the fish”…

I have a 6’ round 300 gal Rubbermaid in which I’ve raised both Oscars and a Severum and I’ve seen both species enjoy the ample space first hand. Years ago, before I had larger tanks, I thought my fish were happy in their smaller tanks. But after seeing them in these larger environments I’ve seen the difference (again, first hand).

But… to suggest that these two fish ‘need’ a 200+ gal tank is simply not true…

Best post so far.

So with this manner of thinking people should build tanks that are thousands of gallons? because you never know you may end up wanting a dolphin. :wall:

O' yes of cause everyone can get Dolphins !

NOT .

All i am trying to say is , bigger the better as in a later date he could wont to get more fish to house with the Oscar and Severum .

Everyones has there opinions and thats mine .

Why dont we just abolish all aquariums then, lets just take the bigger the better to the next step, fish dont belong in aquariums and shold ALL be in their natural habitat, they will be happier. Geeze. 75G is MORE than fine for what you want to do TC and your fish will be perfectly happy in there.

My two cents.
I have to agree with the critics on this post. I understand that most ppl on MFK have large tanks to house their monster fish but the manner in which many ppl answer those asking for help or suggestions is sometimes condescending. Kinda like I live in a mansion, anyone who has an apartment is ignorant. I think most ppl have common sense, excuse me, some ppl have it and love the hobby so much that they expand their inventory and tanks when need be. I started off with an 8 gallon tank, now I have 12 and am looking to get more. If you really want to talk about fish being their happiest and most natural, they would be in the wild and not in a tank no matter the size. Don’t know how many enthusiast on here have own a glass lake. IMO start with what you can afford. A 55 gallon will temporarily hold juvenile Oscar and Severum. How long you keep them in there is dependant on how often you feed and change your water.
Biggup to SG1 for speakin up on the issue!

Learning to detect sarcasm goes a long way. Lighten up. :)

Again, everyone knows 'the bigger the better', it need not be regurgitated every two seconds.

Also, the OP never mentioned any fish besides an Oscar and a Severum, so telling them to get a bigger tank based on him possibly wanting other fish in the future is just... :screwy:... silly.

They asked for a tank specifically for those two fish, in which anything 75+ gallon would work great.

So really your saying ever pet/ animal should be put back into the wild , like your dog or cat , even your parrot or hampster .

im not saying lets get rid of all fish tanks , just tht BIGGER IS ALWAYS BETTER IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY .

if it was a chose of gettinga 75Gal over a 120Gal 180 or bigger , i would always go for the biggest . If i have the room to have one .

So if he has the room and money for a big tank like a 180 or 220Gal get one rather than a smaller tank which he will just end getting rid of ( most people do) in the furture and get the 220Gal + tank .

The OP wanted to know what size tank he would need and a 75g is fine. That's the last thing i will add to this thread. :nilly:
