TANKED on Animal Planet

I was watching the one with the Fen Shui aquarium and the ship aquarium last night, and I quickly realized that they're much better at designing and building aquariums and filtration systems rather than stocking the aquariums. They build some pretty nice aquariums and stands; the seams on those aquariums were great, not the crap that you sometimes see from other suppliers. It seemed like they went with the old, "Ooo, that looks pretty; let's get it!" mentality when it came to stocking, though. For example, they put a copperband butterflyfish in a reef aquarium. The last time I checked, those fish eat anemones and corals in the wild and will do the same in captivity. Of course then, the guy at the fish warehouse didn't seem to give them the 100% truth on that detail either, so I don't put all the blame on them.

Overall, I think it's a great show, but they need to work on their stocking skills.

This episode was the best so far IMO

I would have liked to see more details of the filtration on the reef tank but that doesn't make for good tv :(

Loved the story about the little boy and thought that tank came out great

Very good show. I do agree with you guys that they are great at designing and building the aquariums and the decorations within them, but I think they could improve on their stocking skills. Some tanks they make are way to small for the inhabitants within them. For example, the phone booth tank, the guitar tank, and the keg tank. All those tanks are way too small for the fish they put in them....WAY too small. :headshake

I put copperbands in live coral tanks all the time without issue. The only reason they'll eat your coral stock is that you aren't providing them enough food.

I've been watching this show most of the weekend. Seems like its been on a lot. Wish I had as much money as some of those people do, my God..

I watched a few of them yesterday but during the one show I got a little annoyed because he kept saying fong shui.I'm not sure what the proper way to say the term is but I'm almost certain that wasn't it.

I finally caught a few full length episodes. What an absolute joke. I have NO doubt these guys make nice tanks, but as far as pure TV goes, it's horrible. I really wanted to like it too.

The episode where they build a tank inside of the classic car...it looked like they added a few Golden Trevally. Don't they grow to 3 or 4 feet? I saw another episode where they added a leopard shark to a tank that couldn't have been more than 500 gallons. I guess if they are maintaining these tanks, they can swap the fish out when they grow too large. We can't really judge their sticking decisions without knowing all the details.
