  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:iagree: Joel's fish is a carpintis, and the escondido is one of many different races of the species. they are collected in a certain area and named 'escondido'. the escondido is generally considered to be the most colorful and attractive race of carpintis. :)

So where did everyone get their H. Carpinte from? I am really set on getting one, I just don't know where to find them. BTW excellent pics everyone. :woot:

Petsmart lucky fish lol

I dunno why I haven't seen carpintis for sale at my LFS's

It's a regional variant strain of Carpinte...Escondido is even more greener...the best looking IMO out of the Texases...

BTW Joel's pic is definitely a Carpinte
thanks you for clearing that up. how large does the H. carpinte get?

the one in my gallery was from a tank in Petland Discounts chain store in Maspeth, NY, the tank had a crowded assortment of baby SA/CA cichlids priced at 2 for $5, i spotted the carpintis and picked it up for $2.50 in May 2005, never seen carpintis there again, lots of true texas (H. cyanoguttatus) though

In a presentation he gave on collecting cichlids in the Panuco Basin of Mexico, Rusty Wessel said he saw several male carpintis well over a foot long so they get pretty big. :grinyes:
