Thinking about getting a powerhead. Never got one before but I'm trying to get somthing to keep waste for settling on the bottom so the filters can pick it up. What do y'all think and suggestions on a good brand at a decent price?

I dn't use powerheads, I use Power Filters & Canisters with my Tanks. I use the Aqua-Clear 110. It's always worked great for my tank (especially with messy piranha). I also use the Emperor 400 Bio-Wheel on my Other tank. It cleans all the waste floating & that's settled on the bottom, also the Bio-Wheel provides a higher amount of oxygen in the tank. I always try to add a Power Filter to my tanks.

The reason I have wasted settling on the bottom is cause I have big fish and big fish have big poop, big poop is heavy therefore it doesn't Float around and get sucked up by the filters. Also since the bottom is sand, the waste sits on top of the sand untill it is vacuumed out manually.

I got big fish aswell, but I understand how u mean, I dnt got sand I got about 2-2/5 inches of gravel in my tank. The Fx5 I got works great for my Oscar, Cigar Shark, Jack Dempsey, Green Terror, 2 plecos but most of all 11 common goldfish that are mixed between 4" & 8" they're extremely messy. All my Goldfish do is eat & poop.

Well that is where it is diffrent. All the waste your fish make settle in the gravel and it can't be seen untill u gravel vac or move it around. If there is sand in the bottom of the tank the waste sits on top of the sand and doesn't settle in and under it like the gravel. I will try to post a pic tomorrow to show u.

Mine needs to be atleast once every 2 weeks
I clean mine every sat. Vac the Sand do a 70 percent water change and alternate cleaning the canisters

The reason want to add a powerhead is to keep a strong current so that the waste can never settle on the bottom. If the current is strong enough it will keep tge waste floating around untill the canisters grab it. Which won't take long because combined the filters pump close to 1300 gph. So the tank drains and fills almost 5 and 1/2 times in one hour. The water is always crispy and u never see particals floating around unless I haven't serviced tge filters in a while.
