Will someone please do something about this dude..... I mean i understand being a noobie to a forum, but come on, ya dont have to accuse people of animal abuse just because they do things differently. I would be willing to put most active members on this fine forum up against almost anyone when it comes to quality care of their fish, and when they dont, they usually fix it pretty quick when brought to their attention, from what i have observed.
Seriously he's driving me nuts with his accusing posts and i dont even own a poly. I was just reading outta curiousity.

Well explain me, what you think, when you read topics like that one here:

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...ed-the-African-Lungfish-and-failed-miserably!

That is no animal abuse? To "buy" an animal and then let it get ripped apart the very same day? Thats what i mean. Many here see those creatures as product. Something you buy and throw away when you don´t need it anymore. Others here celebrate the fact that they collected as much species as possible and put them together in one tank. It would help alot if some guys here would start to see those animals as living beings and not as a product. Just look at the amount of hilarious questions...For example which fish can be put together with polypterids. Would someone ask which animals could be kept with a caiman? Maybe some boa constrictor? Or a nile croc?

Im just wondering darius....do your fish laugh at your lecturing like the rest of us do?? Im just wondering due to how you are lecturing people on here about their fish keeping based on the worst things you can find on here. You may very well be extremely knowlegable on the subject, but there are better ways than telling everyone how horrible their fish keeping is, to correct what you percieve as improper keeping
If you are going to continue to tell people how horrible they are, please do us all, including yourself a favor and go away and learn some manners then come back and talk.

I don´t denie that here are some people who have much knowledge about the topic. But why does nobody of those people react properly to such topics? Take the "lungfish massacre" for example. Did you read the comments there? They were like: "go on, buy a new one and try it again." I think we both agree that such answers do nothing good. The thing is, those species are not breed in captivity. They are taken from their natural habitat. They are virtually lost for their genetic pool. We should not just keep them, we should do evrything to breed them. And we should not see them as products. We should show some responsibilty towards them. I believe, that we should not keep any species in captivity that we can´t breed.

See now that was a reasonable way to present it lol.
As for the issue at hand, i believe we should TRY to breed the species that have not yet been bred in captivity, but i do not believe everyone has that option.
As for not keeping species that we cant breed in captivity, i think that would probably take out about half the fish in the hobby that we are all still learning so much about and im sure at some point will be able to breed. You have to keep in mind, there was probably a time way back when, that breeding "common" fish like tetras and cichlids in captivity was not done, yet now most people can. This is still very much a growing and learning hobby.
Since you are so passionate about the idea of breeding the fish you keep that others are not breeding, perhaps it would be more productive to share your knowlege and experience in breeding these species so that others may give it a shot.
Just my suggestions

The guys are going crazy here... I don't know too much about bichirs, I just like them....but I'm sure that even in the nature, nowadays, is quite impossible to find a PERFECT habitat for any kind of creature..
And here, I just see a child that read a lot of things about a type of fish, doesn't have a tank that support his fish and he's starting to piece off many members here (not me, cause i have fun with that)...

GOD... Your are going to breed them and.. what ? Are you going to release them in the nature ? Are you really serious about that ? To keep we have to breed ?
That's just stupid....once in a tank, them cannot go back ;s

I don´t read alot of "things", thats my job ... I´m into bioengineering. Beside that i think you did not get it.

You support an industry that destroyes entire ecosystems. The USA is the biggest "customer" of that "import mafia". One example is the python regius population in Ghana which dropped about 60% in the last years, because some pathetic kids here in the US want a pet snake.

And i don´t know what you try to say with "once in a tank, them cannot go back"
Thats nonsense...a Polypterid is not a domesticated animal. He will never lose his natural instincts. How do you think we helped the sturgeons? They were gone in most parts in europe and re established with sturgeons we did breed in tanks. We talk about fishs and not about Orcas...

Well, give me a reason why the institute i´m working for should not give the advice to the government to ban all imports of certain fish species? Polypterids, Arowana and others are on our list already. There is nothing positive in keeping them in captivity. The laws differ from state to state and we need a federal solution for that.

I don't support anything haha
I know how they helped sturgeons. And I also do Bioengineering.

Just take care of your tank and show us what you got...don't come here and start talking **** about how the other Fish Keepers do with their tanks and fishes.

enough ;D
