Okay so your company is looking to harvest genes that control certain functions in an organism. Your company is for profit, correct?

What method does your company use to collect the genetic data?

Evry company is for profit. Profit is needed to keep the research running. We use the PGT method to collect the data. That means we simply take small tissue samples, mostly from the fins.

What is the source of the animals used in your tissue collection? Are they collected from the wild, or are they captive bred, farmed animals?

That depends. We catch some ourself. Take the samples and collect their data. Thats mostly done in field labs. But we also take some to breed them. My own is one of the offsprings. I assure you we treat them good. They are by far my favorite animals. my main area is paleogenetics and i see the polypteridae as role model for the early Cladistia. Look up Hyneria for example. It lived in the mid devonian. Knowing the polypteridae you can easily reconstruct those animals. I´m also very much into basal plant orders like the Lycopodiaceae.

Are all of the holding and breeding tanks furnished with driftwood, plants, rocks, and substrate?

Are the fish anesthetized in any way before their fins are being cut and tissue removed?

What is the purpose of breeding the fish? Do you release any offspring into waters where the parents were collected?

Since they are only a few, yes they are. There are no stones but plants and driftwood. The fish are calmed down with medication before any tissue samples are taken. And no, none are released into the wild. It is a very small program yet.

What size enclosures does Monsanto use in the lab for the bichirs, and approximately how many animals have been taken into captivity for this R&D program?

What is the relevance of genes from early cladista to Monsanto's work in bioengineered crops?

How many gallons is your personal aquarium, and what is your care regimen like for your small ornate?

What do you feed?

Ok so i may have some personal issues with some work that monsanto does, but that is aparently the work that darius is doing for them. I have been talking with him privately and its fascinating the things they are doing.
For you darius...im finding what your doing fascinating, but i have to give a lil bit of advice, you will be recieved alot better here if you keep it less personal when it comes to the way people keep their fish and will be much more productive to politely suggest things to try rather than telling people they are wrong

Hey Darius, any possibility you could fix some more pics of bichirs in the wild? ;)
