no joke, the window was 6 feet long, and the aro came up right next to it, and filled up almost almost all of the window. it was huge, at least 4 and a half feet, probably more. but it also was hideous! it had extended lower jaw, downgaze, and torn fins:( i felt sorry for it. he said it was wildcaught and was given to him at 2 feet. he wanted to see how big he could get it, so he just put it strait into his big tank and handfed it lots of foods, including pellets, lizards, worms, shrimp, frogs, and lots more.
Then this is either a case of bad size judgement or just a bad lie, because the largest silver caught in the wild was an inch short of 4'.

Osteoglossum bicirrhosum

weight: 11,50 kg (25 lb 6 oz)

length: approx. 120 cm (approx. 47 inches)

locality: Rio Camaiu, Brazil

year: 2008

caught by: Johnny Hoffmann

people have definitely heard of silvers this size, i'm not the only one.
Just because people are spouting out unproved information doesn't mean it's true. A lot of people will tell you a goldfish can't get to more than 3", but I think we all know that isn't true.

A 4' arowana is on par with a 16" oscar as the most commonly over-exaggerated fish on the internet. If I had a dollar for every person who had claimed to have (or have seen) a 3'+ aro or a 14"+ oscar I'd be able to build a 20k gallon pond to grow some out for myself.
I don't care how excited you are about it, until I see a pic of the fish on a tape measure I'm going to call bulls--t...

Bigfoot, the loch ness monster and 5' silver arowana all fall in to the same category. Everybody has heard of them nobody has proof of any.

This thread has turned to nothing but BS claims and lies. Or maybe just the fact that many people have a really lacking inability to accurately judge size.

the biggest i saw was about 3-3.5' or there about and it was at shedd aquarium in chicago....the next biggest was today at the lfs i guy dropped off a 2.5' silver that was about 5" tall...i may try and adopt that one, though funds are slim do to the new salt tank and black aro buys...
