also , why is it bad that the gov is making people drive cleaner cars??
Cleaner cars wont pull my boat. Maybe I could trade in my old 2 stroke for a nice new 4 stroke. I bet I'd be the only 71 caravelle on the water with a 4 stroke:D

I can't imagine anyone trading in a muscle car for 4500 or less to get a Hybrid.

I know that probably wouldn't happen, even though I saw a super clean 5.0 mustang getting crushed on the news for the cash for clunkers. Who knows how far the government will go to get rid of gas guzzling cars. Next thing they might do is stop registration on any car that gets bad gas mileage.

It is not the role of our federal government to give people discounts to buy things.

If I elaborate on that any further I'll probably get banned.

Just thinking about it makes my blood boil.

would you feel the same about them telling you what you could eat or where you could buy your food because it is better for you? or how about making you pay more for organic and local grown food since one of the biggest contributors to harmful vehicle emissions is the big rigs that haul your frozen dinners/tomatoes/ice cream/meats from the factory to Your City, USA.

or how about levying large tariffs against electronics and other products from asia that are made in inefficient factories with no emissions controls? or how about just limiting the amount of time you can spend on the computer or playing video games or watching tv? i mean that all takes loads of unneccesary electricity that is produced mostly from coal fired power plants.

the point is that why should the government be able to tell you what you can or can't drive especially when most of the oh so pious in congress and the senate get chauffeured around in big heavy gas guzzling towncars and limos and fly across the country in private jets that are about as bad as it gets for emissions?

The government is not telling you to drive clean cars it's just making it more economic to do so. Bpags52 has a point with the feds not giving people incentives to buy stuff at all, arguable valid. You want a gas guzzling truck or sports car (and I sure as **** do, MB SL-class) then go buy one just don't expect help doing it.

The current belief is that less emmisions are better, if you feel that more emmisions are better for all involved then there isn't really much to be said. If the feds feel like handing out money then why not use it to stear towards better decsions.
