exactly my point if the fx5 was priced high would it have sold as many units

fluval done a smart move by selling the fx5 cheap it gained them part of the market now living on the big bang for the buck as you put the fx5 was meant to give it has raised the price of the G hoping it will sell

you are an idiot.

seems ehiem has fooled you into thinking good things cant be sold for good prices. Your the one that has been fooled buddy. I own both the filters and would roll with an fx5 any day.

I still think we're comparing apples and oranges.

The G will come down in price, just give it a couple of years. It really all depends on where you look too...petsmart has the 405's for $200, my LFS sells FX5's for over $400. If the large G6 is $500 right now, give it a couple of years and you'll see it for $250 if you look in the right places.

whats with the personal insults you clown

we are all entitled to our opinions thats what forums are all about

i think fluval are crap the fx5 is the best filter fluval have made who knows what the G is like its to new to comment

fluval is a piece of crap , but the fx5 isnt , you should buy one someday. I just argued the point where you said its good for nothing but mechanical , when i have one that has nothing but bio in it and does a better job than my ehiem. I only argue falso statements based on experiance , not on research. 90% research isnt right because your situation is always differant.

if the fx5 is such a great filter then why didn't fluval stick to its same design of loads of mech filtration and next to no bio media

as you said fluval are crap and the fx5 is the best filter they have put onto the market so if the fx5 was such a winning formula don't you think they would have stuck with the design and added the tech features of the G on a scaled down version

thats what eheim have done with the 2080 now we have the 2180 the pro3e all based around the original 2080 :D

I think these are two differetn types of filters, the FX5 seems to do great at mech filtration with high flow rates, Where as the G has slower flow rates and allows for better bio-filtration

If i had a big messy animal in a tank i would get a FX5 (which is my plan) But if i had less messy fish that needed supper water condtions the G would probably be the way to go (forgeting about the high price tag)

The fx5 has more bio filtration than people give it credit for. Those six large sponges don't just filter out debris they serve a dual purpose as a perfect place for your beneficial bacteria in addition to mech filtration. All you need to do is rinse them out with dechlorinated water or water you siphoned from your tank and your set. The whole Eheim V Fluval debate and which is better will be resolved about the same time the Chevrolet vs Ford debate ends. Each has their fanboy section that rarely if ever shifts from their own biased opinions.

Marketing strategy... why does acura sell cars when you can get the same car from honda? why buy an infiniti when you can get a nissian.... come on dude think outside the box. You pay more for uneeded toys , they are fun to have though. Thats the G , thats all it is. Just a way to make more money on something than they should.

dont get me wrong , ehiem is great , but it really doesnt add up to an fx5. Im sure alot of ehiem users will agree with that. Ehiem may only last longer , which is still a great thing , but hands down fx5 is the BEST canister filter.... but i dont think you could ever go wrong getting an ehiem.

at the end of the day a filter is the kidney of your tank so you want it to last as long as possible don't you
