i would be thinking of a way like how ppl move rays, with big bags of water and etc., i would just have to move them before they got too big to move.

I cringe at an idea that i will have to move my motoro from its 7' aquarium to 8' ... i am contemplating moving it with arowana gang at the same time even though it will last in 7' for a few more months but then when i look at its spiny tail, i am not going like ...hmmm wait till the lil bugger adds a few more inches to its disk and then there is no way i am touching that

Might as well put the fish in a decent sized home to start with. therefore theres about ZERO chance of stunting the fish and u get maximum growth rate with the best possible water quality! the reason why my younger RTC outgrew my older RTC by so much is due tot he fact that the smallest tank he/she has lived in is 8 feet! then quickly moved to a large fibreglass tank wen 12 inches....then subsequent moves into ponds.

Moving large catfish is NOT recomended. they seem to take stresss to a whole new level compared to moving smaller fish. mine starved for a few months wen moved into the final pond.

It seems like my RTCs stopped growing (or at least not noticeable). The remaining pim is growing like weed though nowhere near as fat. very fast moving catfish (almost like a pangasius cat)when hungry (that is to say - all the time)

PS: RTCs are ~80cm ... don't eat so much - became very picky lately :irked: wants shrimp heads (aro left overs) and tails

Come to Bangkok - Siam Paragon shopping mall. they have a MASSIVE RTC (and paima) in their amazonian set-up
DAMMIT!!! i just went to bangkok last year...wish u told me earlier LOL

I'm sorry you guys have such a hard time with moving your cats, all of mine have become used to it and don't stress at all, mind you they had all shown signs of stress when I first moved them but they have all learned that it's no big deal now. It is a learned behavior just like hand feeding and petting your cats...

I think that the one thing that we can all agree on is for tank size... as big as you can afford to give them (financially as well as how much space you can afford to lose to your tank). I wouldn't have a problem with someone giving a RTC a 10 x 4 tank as a home... I mean lets face it here, if someone gives their RTC a tank that size and keeps the fish long enough to outgrow it... it is a very safe bet that they will upgrade anyway since thats what we (MFKers) do!... everyone here has done the grow out thing... including those that are saying to just go as big as you can straight away.

In an ideal situation we would all have the 50K tank built onto the side of our houses... fill it with all the fish that we could ever want and be done with it... but the simple fact of the matter is that there are very few people that not only can afford to do that within the hobby but also a lot of people whom do not have that much space available next to their homes for such a thing :naughty: LOL

:nilly:i was just about to get onr of those. thank god i didnt
i cant wait til i get one of those

...<sigh> wish some one would make a 4' wide tank for me here. At this size, it is cheaper to get a hybrid set-up (concrete+glass). ponds are good but i still like to have a side view for certain species (

i dont mind the overhead view. ill have plenty of side view while they grow out.
