The work starts here. 20ft tank!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
5 ft. Is alot to just get rid of :( ...are u turning that part into a sump? I think u should listen to ur wife and get all 20' down there hah...ur pump should be fine handeling the full gallons as turn over rate is not as important on larger volumes of water. Whats the decieding factor on ur 15' length?

The deciding factor is the fish room that is closest to the laundry room drain and water supply for auto drip system is only 15' long. I only have 1 wall in my basement that's over 20' that's just happens to be the furthest away from my drain & water lines and there is almost no way to hide a drain pipe that would be over 40ft running threw 4 different rooms...
Yes im pretty sure i'll turn the rest of the tank into a sump.
And your right I do want it bigger I just think 15' is the max ill be able to do in this house. If I ever move I will have to cut the tank apart to take it with me and at that time it wouldnt be hard to add more back to the length if the new house would allow...
Before you even suggest it lol, running this tank without a drip system is not an option haha once you have a drip system you never want to go back to routine waterchanges

I should be able to start this in a couple weeks. Anyone want to point me in the right direction?....
My thought were to cut it and get it downstairs first, glue it back together and do all the joints. At that time I will have exact measure to build the stand. Bring the stand down fill it to watch for leaks then hook up plumbing? Or am I going about this with the wrong thoughts

15x30x24 are super rad dims! YOu could have a lot of happy fish in there. Cant wait to see some more progress.

The basement wall is a load bearing wall. Running right down the middle of my house, I've already opened it up to 7' that's the maximum code will allow for two 2x6 header beam..

I've decided the easiest, cheapest, and least amount of work will be to chop the tank in half then Weldon #40 it back together while im beefing up all the joints on the tank. Final dems will be 15'x30"x24" still 500+ gallons. This way ill be able to use the pump I already own.
Step 1 is getting Weldon to my house step 2 chop the tank, step 3 build the stand in two sections, rip out carpet, bring tank & stand down in two section, glue back together and fill and enjoy ;)

Lol finally someone helping me "settle" on 15'!! Im already pretty torn on not keeping it closer to 20' but its just not possible in my basement.
Planning on finding some Weldon #40 and getting started in a few weeks. Hopefully will move along quickly. Maybe have it going in around 2-3 months with happy cichla and rays in it :)
