That my friend is a Haplochromis sp. 44 or "Thickskin". Not to be rude, but the guy selling them didn't know what he was talking about. He looks pretty good I might add. Want to sell him?:D

Edit:
BTW, they are notorious for changing color with their moods n' such. Your looks as though he just woke up of might be a little stressed. (i.e. not the dominant male)
Thank you!!
I love him... thats why i get into so many conversations about him.. so i must find some females for him .. he has no females around to get his colors going..but when he gets mad about something he is beautiful.. I did not think the guy knew much at the LFS.. but i just wanted to make completely sure of the one i have before i look for some girls:D

are the ones in the first post sp. 44?

No.. the ones in the first pic are the Astatotilapia Latisfaciata. OR...I guess if you want to use a general name:nilly: Zebra Obliquidens.

I don't know what that means...What's sp. 44?

The sp 44 refers to the fact that those Haps in particular have never been given a real name. It just stands for species 44.

Hap sp 44 is a type of hap that is similar to what people call Zebra Obliquidens. Most people confuse sp 44 for them and thus the difficultly in knowing what you have until they are full grown. I have not seen real Zebra Obliquidens in person ever... Pharoh is really into vics so that is why I was asking him what his opinion was.

I hope that explains it a little better

Astatotilapia latifasciata are Zebra Obliquidens

Haplochromis sp. "Thick Skin" are the sp 44, Hap sp. ''Red Tail'' or, Obliquidens

Hope that helps

stop screwing with me... you know it takes me longer to catch on... I am at a disadvantage... I have the wife in my ear... I have to do two things at once...

I will catch on.... just takes longer:ROFL:

ps color blindness really makes vics hard...

i think you caught on just fine mike ..those names such as Haplochromis Obliquidens and Astatotilapia are mistakingly given to Haplochromis sp44.. thats why i am always asking because they are very close in looks etc.. wonder why they never gave it.. "it's own name??":D
