Hap sp 44 is a type of hap that is similar to what people call Zebra Obliquidens. Most people confuse sp 44 for them and thus the difficultly in knowing what you have until they are full grown. I have not seen real Zebra Obliquidens in person ever... Pharoh is really into vics so that is why I was asking him what his opinion was.

I hope that explains it a little better

Astatotilapia latifasciata are Zebra Obliquidens

Haplochromis sp. "Thick Skin" are the sp 44, Hap sp. ''Red Tail'' or, Obliquidens

Hope that helps

Sorta like L numbers for Plecos that have yet to be identified. I get it.

I will get some shots of the male this weekend and post them so you can be the judge. I may have to take a video though as he doesn't stay still very much. The fems do because I guess they are conserving energy while they hold the babies since they are not eating.

I may have to wait to the next brood to get them into a separate tank since they have been holding for a few days already and I don't have the tank. I just placed an order for a sponge filter, heater and pump. Gonna buy the tank somewhere local. Probably something like a 20 long.

I want to put the sponge filter in my display tank for a couple of weeks to get it full of good bacteria before I drop it into the 20G with water from the display tank. Once they get big enough I'll drop them into a large tub that holds 80 gallons to grow them out.

I've also got some Transcriptus that I need to yank and put in another tank to get those babies going....

Weeeeeelllll actually......to confuse the issue a little further. Zebra Obiquidens are truly thought to be extinct, but since the Astatotilapia looks so similar, people have just transferred the name. Don't feel too bad about using the name though...even Cichlid Forum calls them that.:drool:

see not even I know it all... this is part of the reason I wanted you to get into vics... So we can get a local expert for the club... and for my own evil world dominance plans...

well now i am convinced he is thick skin sp44..and hope i find some girls..

And for those of you who may be interested in getting a few of either of these. When you are in a LFS;
1. If they refer to them as Zebra Obliquidens, then they are "most likely" Astatotilapia Latisfaciata.
2. If they refer to them as Haplochromis Obliquidens, then they are "Most likely" the Haplochromis sp. 44 "Thickskin".

Wheeeew!:)
