These weren't the pictures I was looking for, I know there have been even better ones posted on this site, but you get the point. I still retain on my opinion if an adult larger species bichir wanted to eat a full grown dovi it could. Not saying so and so fish is better or badder than the other, dovis are much more agressive, but for size and jaw strength their is no comparison

your right about the length but my 14 inch jag makes my 15.5 inch ornate look like a baby have to take in mass. give me a 40 inch endi and a 28 inch dovii that would be awesome but never to be seen in aquaria

It's because it's only 15"+. As bichirs grows they get thicker that would be the same with the dovii. But a max size dovii won't be able to fit a max size congi in its mouth.

This is a pic of a 28" congi and at 41" it will be twice as thick.

I've seen some wild caught 25" dovii and the mouth is no where as big unless it plan on choking. Both fish could die in the process as I've seen 24"+ pbass which have larger mouth than doviis and still choke on a 12" bichir.

not saying that bichir armor isnt tough at all but you made a statement that our government was looking into using for there armor. if this is true there must be info on the net about it so id like to see itNote: It has been reported that 'Plecostomus'-type catfish are not good tank-mates for Polypterus because they tend to attach to the scales of the bichir and damage them.

I'm a cichlid guy all the way and I'm not a fan of bichir's, but as much as I would like to say a dovii can bite through the scales of one, it can't. There is no way. Bichirs are built like tanks. Super strong skin and scales. IMO it would have to have teeth like a payara to get through the skin of a bichir.

you do not know this. noone does do you know the power per square inch of a fully grown doviis jaws? do you know how much power per square inch would be needed to penetrate the scales? probably not and thats why its a opionion my op is yes yours is no. simple

i do know this.

and the difference between my opinion and yours (in this case) is that you are incorrect. mine is not an opinion, it is a fact based on knowledge of the scale strength of the fishes in question, as well as relative/general biting strength.

hopefully with everyone else chiming in on this thread (many of whom i would guess are experienced and well-informed fishkeepers...or just have common sense knowledge of both types of fish) will help you realize that you are incorrect in this discussion.

seriously, it's time to move on (insert "beat-the-dead-horse" emoticon here) --

ok so let say your right about the dovii not being able to penetrate it. but a full size dovii is 28 inches and would never be a meal to a poly. like the other guy said this is getting preposterus. theres really no way of knowing for sure its all about op my op still stands as yes but my op could be wrong. lets get onto something else shall we.

maybe if you would have read this i was already moving on.
