Jason, it is obvious that you do not know a lot about snakes.

So, before everything else, REFRAIN FROM AN IMPULSE BUY.

Next, you will have to choose the type of snake you want ( I ASSUME HOTS DON'T EVEN COME INTO THE EQUATION).

Next, the size ( AVOID THE BIG ONES PLEASE, NAMELY RETICULATUS, BURMESE, SEBAE, NATALENSIS, ANACONDAS AND THE LIKE ). All of these can, and will, eventually, be dangerous.

Next, you will have to decide whether you want ground snakes, arboreals or semi arboreals.

Arboreals are the ones that require most from your herp experience in maintaining their adequate environment. If you want to go this route, I would suggest an AMAZON TREE BOA ( Corallus Hortulanos ). They are your typical entry level arboreals. Refrain, for now, from Green Tree Pythons and Emeral Tree Boas.

In the semi-arboreal field you will find most of the Carpets. SOme less arboreal, ( as the beautifull Bredli ) ), some more arboreal. Some are more difficult to keep and need to have special requirements ( Diamonds, I believe ).

In the so called ground level- WHICH I WOULD SUGGEST YOU START WITH - I would refrain from Balls. You will get tired of them. ( just my opinion )

Look into captive bred Boas Constrictors and/or Blood Pythons ( you have loads of very good breeders in the US ).

What in the hell is this..............................He told me that he really wanted an aboreal snake,so first thing I did was to get him to start looking on kingsnake just to get some ideas and then when he found something he liked to come and ask us about it.Then,I tried to stir him away from green tree pythons because I had them and could tell him the ups and downs and why they are not good first snakes. Then told him about amazon tree boas for starting with aboreals or to lean into or at least start getting info on carpet pythons because all the ppl Ive seen having success with them and they also climb like he wants.AS far as hots or Anacondas and stuff like that,he made it very clear that he was a begener with snakes and wanted a good first snake, also saying he has experience in reptiles though so he knows a bit about cage environment needs.I already know him enough to know hes not an impulse buyer and also from knowing eachother a bit on here I know I can talk a little choppy to him and he will ask exactly what he means if not given enough info.I told him to make sure its captive bread....................Only thing I didnt mention is cage size but you can make it work if you got the time money and know how.................................................What in Gods name makes you think I dont know anything about snakes???Im 34 and have kept snakes and bread reptiles since about 13 and read about them every day and always have.Hands on with over 20 types of snakes and even study hots though I cant have them.Sorry but I feel like Ive been a big help at times in this herp room and if you ask around you may find it to be true.

Heres the sketch, the one I did at work was a lot more detailed. But anyways....

6' tall, 4' wide, 3' deep. There will be a small pond in the floor, as pictured, and the bottom 3 feet (under the pond) will be for a small filter and supplies. Hopefully this will help. And of course there will be branches.

I dont see any reason why it wouldnt work, looks good to me.You didnt draw the monkey?

please keep this thread clean and take that stuff to pms
I really like the cage idea it seems very nice
I would add about 8 inches to the top so you can have a spot for some lights and maybe a radient heat panel
also I dont think you will need 3 feet of storage although it would be cool if you made something for your feeders especially if you were to breed your own you could put a thing for them to live in and a gas chamber well Im going a bit complicated but if you start getting more and more snakes which seems to happen a lot that would be a cool very clean looking quality
I would also recommend putting linolium flooring on the inside of the cage and sealing it with silicone for easy clean up/water resistance
oh you could also do a misting system in the bottom

jason I couldn't help but tease you on one part where you said "captive bread" when I read this I pictured a WC bread being like an angry crust throwing bagel lol
