Sometimes we take for granted what we have living in our own backyards. ;)
all i have in my backyard are squirrels :(

I'm with LawOne. Like Hawaii, they intro'd them here to control the sugar cane beetle. They had no impact on the beetle, but have gone on to decimate native species south into New South Wales, across the Northern Territory and into Westerm Australia. Local councils have campaigns encouraging kids to kill as many as they can. There's a doco called "Canetoads" which includes chats with an old, crazy-eyed hippie bloke who's been on the toad juice for years and says, "...never done me any harm..." Poor silly fool.

Actually. To get a high from cane toad venom, you'd need to crystallize it first.
Just licking the toad is going to give you a nasty taste in your mouth, or sick
Just though you all should know..

BTW, No, I've never done it.
I almost bought a Cane Toad last year.

Also, Drugs are bad, Mmmkay?

i remember watching a movie in 6th grade about cane toads in Australia. Had this great song and the best scene was of a jeep in the distance swerving back and forth driving towards the camera. As he gets closer you hear "POP POP POP!!!!!" and you realize the pops are him running over cane toads. That and a scene of one eating a full grown pidgeon haha. Wanted one ever since lol.

Cane Toads are brilliant pets, actually get quite tame and responsive.Regarding gettin high-you wont, youll just puke! (Its the colorado river toad for the trip)

Ewwwww lol. I hate cane toads. I catch them whenever I find one around my house and throw them in the wheelie bin tied up in a plastic bag. I can't bring myself to touch them so I have to persuade them to jump into the bag by themselves. And running them over with the car does make a fantastic popping sound...is it bad that I reverse if I miss them the first time??

Well I'm certainly not interested in licking them :)

I'm not sure on the tank size, I've got a few free but im not sure how much space they need since all the caresheets I've read vary and people keep relating them to pacman's or Pyxie's which if I remember correctly don't really move much...

I've heard about them being pests but they're not at all common over here and they seem interesting :)

Thanks,
Paul

Here they are definately pests.......big ones.
However......If you get one...........................

They can jump / hop a fair distance in one go, as do most frogs/toads...
If you have a 2ft tank or larger, that's plenty. Especially if you take him out for a hop now n then. Very tough critters....

Make it a water & land tank. They like it warm (Tropical) A nice hidy hole for him to get away from it all....lol

They'll eat almost anything put in front of them. Insects, mice, rats, frogs, fish, dog food, earthworms, small snakes, lizards, vegetables......your fingers....lol

If it's a male.....he'll call/croak you're ears off....noisy buggers!!!

They can get very large. The largest recorded specimen weighed 2.65 kg (5.8 lb) with a length of 38 cm (15 in) from snout to vent

Oh yeah.......I nearly forgot. Their poison sacks (Just behind head) can squirt that sh*t along way when squeezed!!!
Get it in your eye and it'll burn like hell. In your mouth, it tastes like crap!!! If your cat, dog, snake, young child or any other
thing eats them....they're D.O.A.....

Cheers ~ Yabba
